Chuck had his monthly visit to the transplant doc, who I found out in the waiting room is known by all his patients as the ASS ! thank goodnes I thought it was just us. I was shooting questions at him right and left and writing down everything he said. Chuck said I caught him off guard.
So today the count is: meld of 13 but the doc said he is leaving him at a 15, he still went up from a 11 from just a few weeks ago. Why he is leaving him at a 15 is beyond me. We have been going now to him for a year with a meld score of an 8 so in one year he went up that fast.

I still got the preaching of how important the lactulose is and that his dossage is something he can change from day to day. I still find it weird the ASS talks to me and not Chuck. I just find it amuzing that Chuck pretty much has to make him shake his hand when he leaves. You can tell its not something he does with his patients.

" I'm glad you asked lots of questions and forced him to deal with you.
Unfortunately some of the very best doctors and surgeons have no personal skills, but they can make really good diagnosticians or surgeons. I personally wanted a surgeon who thought they were God as many do. I figure might as well have a human one along with the one I trust my life with. "

" You keep asking the questions and if ASS has an attitude, perhaps it is time to look for someone new. He is dealing directly with you because he knows he can't bs past you. You go girl! Show this guy it doesn't take a medical degree to be intellegent or know something about what is going on. All it takes is a desire and the right connections (DS for example). Your husband is lucky to have you by his side, and this doctor, whether he knows or understands it now, is lucky to have to deal with you--he will learn a lot-- a lot more than he could ever be "taught" in school! I'm proud of you! "

" Keep hounding the ASS and don't take no for an answer. Had problems communicating with Richie's doc at first, but have since gotten his attention (I think). Though long stage prognosis is not good without a transplant, at least I know what I am dealing with. Make sure that you address dietary guidelines - Richie ended up in ER in coma twice int he past two weeks because we were not given information concerning his need for a low protein diet. "

" Good job! You can even try making a list of questions in advance and have Chuck ask them. Chuck can jot notes on the list and don't let the Dr leave until all the questions are answered. Then maybe the Dr will address Chuck. "

" I like this thread my Hep Doc at first did not disclose everything to me? Then I had the come to the mountain speech Buddha does not play well with others & wanted to know where to send his ashes. We are tight now I get every lab result or new news to read up on., last 3 years. If you like would love to talk to Dr ASS & ask him if he wants it wiped or sewn shut! "

" My first GI doc had all the warmth and human compassion of Attila the Hun.
The only information I got out of him was "You killed your liver, what can you expect?"

He didn't last long.....

Incidentally, it looks like Attila the Hun may have died from cirrhosis........

An alternative theory is that he succumbed to internal bleeding after heavy drinking or a condition called esophageal varices, where a hemorrhoid in the lower part of the esophagus ruptures leaving the person to choke on his/her own blood. "
