" I am sorry. I recommend that you read earlier threads, there is a lot of info there.
No medication should be taken unless prescribed by a doctor, EVEN over the counter meds.

NOTHING WITH ALCOHOL SHOULD BE CONSUMED

The diet varies according to the stage of the disease, you should aks the doc what is ok for him to eat and what he MUST and MUST NOT eat.

I hope I helped. "

The health care system where he lives is not the best, Drs never talk to the patient's family or even to the patient on less they have an appointment which are very difficult to get . Anyway This is my first time with this group and I am not sure How to research the earlier threads for more info or advice "

" Welcome, and I'm very sorry to hear of your brother. I have nothing more to add that the others haven't already said. It is sad that your brother may not be getting the care he needs from his doctors, but doctors are the only ones who can help him with his medication and dietary needs. I wish you the very best and I hope you continue to find some answers.
Take care and many blessings to you and yours. "

" I always thought it was the opposite in that you need extra protein as one of the problems cirrhosis patients have is malnutrition and muscle deteriation.

We need to get Craig involved here as he and several others are much more knowledgable than I (for sure!) and I have learned a lot from this forum for my sister. "

" Hi, as I understand it a relatively high protein diet is recommended. That has been the advice That I have had.

However there are certain stages of this disease when a very low protein diet is best, ( encephalopathy ) So you need to follow the doctor's advice.

The only general advice which seems to apply to anyone Cirrhosis or not, is cutting back on salt.

Craig," Help" what;s the latest on Negative Positive Nitrogen balance for liver patients?

I read some of the negative things about coffee intake in the UK were not about the basic Coffee But the high calorie content of some of the stuff served in specialised coffee shops with all the whipped cream and chocolate, other goodies!
