Dave, I have never read or heard of this type bleeding before...when I have someting strange going on I call my Gastro Dr. and he gets back to me the same day and gives me an answer,if he's able to. Have you considered this? Please let me know cuz I want to learn as much as I can, so if/when it happens to me I'll have some kind of idea. Kathren

My husband's naval is leaking too. Have it checked by your DR. With Randy situation the Dr. said it is a pore for the fluid to come out. His cut from the paracentesis never closed either so he has two openings it is leaking (ascites) from. The doctor also said that anytime he breaks his skin or like that there he will probably leak. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Best of luck with yours.

This could be a sign of portal hypertension. Okay, I just had an crash course on this Wednesday morning.
When the blood does not flow thru the liver properly it backs up and creates portal hypertension. The blood finds the path of least resistance. Usually to the esophagus and stomach. But it can go to the umbilical vein the dr. said. These veins are not designed for such pressure, and they can pop and bleed. When the bleeding is in the esophagus they can go down thru the throat and band the bleeders. When the bleeding is in the stomach it is much more serious because they cannot band those veins. They had to do a "tips" (transjugular intrahepatic portasystemic shunt) on my husband this last wednesday. And that's a whole new horror story. The bleeding from the belly button is not as serious, he said. But still better to have it checked out. I mean better safe than sorry. I don't mean to be a downer here, but we almost waited too late. It could be something as simple as a thin skin and the acites finding an outlet. Good Luck

Hey i'm 17 years old and i've had this problem for about two years. i have no ideas how to get rid of it but i noticed i have a small hole near the bottom of my belly button. last time i just used antibiotic ointments and alcohol wipes to clean the outside. then i had my mom use a syringe and inject iodine into the hole to clean it out. this will hurt a lot but hopefully it will solve your problem temporarily
