Advice:
Does lactulose ever stop working?

Today we went to the reunion and my fiance was having a lot of stomach pain throughout the day. He has maintained the dose of lactulose the dr told him to take, however, he told me today that he has not had a bm since yesterday. Could this be causing his stomach pain? whay is the lactulose not working now? And he increased the dose today above what the dr ordered. He was also more jaundiced than usual today. Despite all this he was in good spirits. Thanks for the responses
