There's a movement of citizens inspired by the presidential campaign who are
now submitting ideas for how they think the Obama Administration should change America. It's called "Ideas for Change in America." One idea is entitled: "End Unnecessary Infant Circumcision" I thought you might be interested in getting involved and recommend you check it out. You can read more and vote for the idea by copying and pasting the following link (sorry couldn't hyperlink): http://www.change. org/ideas/ view/end_ unnecessary_ infant_circumcis ion This idea is currently in 2nd Place in the Health Care category and is in position to make it into the second round!! The top 10 ideas will be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day and will be supported by a national lobbying campaign run by Change.org, MySpace, and more than a dozen leading nonprofits after the Inauguration. So each idea has a real chance at becoming policy. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- - ---- "Immediately move towards ending non-therapeutic, parentally-elective and unnecessary infant circumcision. Support equal rights for boys, girls and intersexed individuals to bodily integrity, and promote respect for the right to intact genitals. Our society should not condone harmful and medically unnecessary surgery on infants; therefore elective and non-therapeutic genital cutting for no good medical reason should be discouraged, with a view to it eventually being unavailable. Require state Medicaid and other programs stop paying for non-therapeutic circumcision if they are to remain eligible for federal funds (this single measure will cause circumcision rates to drop significantly) , and support laws which protect the genital integrity of boys and girls and intersexed individuals equally. The Constitution guarantees security of the person (Art. IV) and the right to property (Art V). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights guarantees freedom from discrimination. All genital cutting of girls is currently outlawed, absent pressing medical need. The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act (2002) grants all infants born alive all the rights of persons. Non-therapeutic circumcision violates all of these statutes. It is painful, cruel, almost always unnecessary, and removes a person's basic right to choose over their own body. It is a practice that should end." Take care, Dave Posted on 12/16/08, 06:12 pm |

Unfortunately we didn't make it past the first round - which we are a little suspicious about. The voting ended Dec 31and we were beaten out by an unknown cause which went from obscurity to bumping us on the very last night. It has been proposed that they were going to sabotage us anyway.
The following is a message from an administrator (Joshua Levy) at change.org which suggests this, "As for mens' rights, last time I checked, men were still pretty dominant. As for 'genital mutilation,' I think you're referring to circumcision, and that's a cause we won't be covering. P.S. I just had a baby boy and his circumcision went swimmingly" Thanks for your interest hlks. Please see "stop routine infant circumcision" on Facebook, or some of the many other anti-circumcision groups on Facebook to show and get support. Peace

What a bullshit, obviously a thing they just did to make sure this issue would never be heard. Of course I don't think Obama would have done anything about it anyway. Don't get me wrong, I voted for the guy, he was much better than the alternative, and I'm still hopeful he's going to do some good, but no mainstream polotician is going to touch this issue. They're all the same.
If we want any action on this, we're going to have to DO something about it ourselves. I don't know what exactly....maybe intactivists should run for office rather than just petitioning people who are already in? I mean goddamit. What a bunch of bullshit. I just want to fucking light that asshole on fire. He's obviously influenced by his religious faith, we were never going to get a fair hearing there. So unfair. These people are going to pay.
