Having been on a couple other forums I've noticed some of these forums have what is called a "Community Leader". I'm not sure what this implies or what the responsibility would be for this person or even how one becomes a CL but maybe this group should think about it. I'm not interested in the position but I have a couple people in mind that I think would be awesome for the position. Please let me know what you think.. yes? no?. Thanks everyone.

Great idea Kimmy. I think every group needs one.

I think the communitly leader is one that can close down a thread if ti gets out of control and also helps new members learn the rules and things. I know the depression one has a couple of them.

In the other site that I belong to, they have what they call Moderators, and basically they do what the CL do here. Personally, I think that every group needs a CL. But that is just my opinion.....

Personally, I don't think it is necessary. We are all adults and we can self regulate. The depression board needs CL's because they are so large and get a large number of posts. I have seen nothing in this group that would warrant having someone close a post.
Again, just my two cents.... I think we do just fine.... Lora

Some of the sites use the term moderators. I think it is a great idea but I think if it is done it should be done by DS. They can give the person the authoority to make decisions that may be unpopular. I think it would be a bad idea to just "elect" someone as I see that only leading to more problems. Maybe we could all petition DS to start using Mods on all the boards.

No I do not think we need one.
Since it was brought up...here direct from the FAQ at DS(copied and pasted) is: "What is a Community Leader? A Community Leader is a member of DailyStrength who has exhibited continually sound judgment and a high level of positive support for other members, and has chosen to assist us in identifying problems and providing solutions that may arise within their primary Support Groups. Because they are active within their Support Group, Community Leaders may be able to answer questions for members and help curtail obvious cases of abuse and spam. As DailyStrength grows, so will our population of Community Leaders. Please consider them as both a resource and a friend that wants to help."

I don't know. I've moderated on other sites and I would NEVER want to do it again. One has to make VERY unpopular decisions, one has to be VERY honest, one has to be careful to not favor "freinds" or certain viewpoints and if people aren't careful some sites can become paragons of Censorship. (the board I moderated was an Alternative Lifestyles Board, and we had young kids come on, who wanted not to talk or give opinions (NO opinion or language, except racial slurs were censored on the Board) but to make trouble and create many different user names to "get support" and to attack others, and make it seem like "others" agreed with them. (When it was them the whole time.)
Again, it should NOT be someone "elected" because then it is just a popularity contest, and I left Jr High many years ago. There IS a way to report threats and things like that. and DS DOES have Community Leaders who respond to those reports. I see no reason to censor the site. Most site which DO want to have a LOT of "control" over the postings of others have one of the regulars (and it SHOULD be a regular if it is done at all, which I don't think we need) with a certain number of posts and has been here a specific amount of time (most sites require at least a year of ACTIVE membership and regular, usually daily posting to even consider someone as a Moderator.) One of the things which SHOULD be done is to root out those who post under more than one user name. I KNOW It's a problem here. . ALL Discussion Boards go through "bad moods" it's just the way it is. I think, as ADULTS we can deal with this stuff ourselves. We're adults and I think seeing this as a board where people DO have strong emotions is important. Also, not allowing oneself to be lost in the whole "overly sensitive/offend-able hot house flower syndrome" helps a LOT to how one deals with a Board with people with a LOT of strong emotions, most of whom are also in serious pain AND on meds. Something to think about.
