Hi, I'm thinking about discontuing my Oxycontins. They are 40mg twice a day, I've been taking them for about 2 months now. Do you just start taking one a day, skip a day,???? Also, i read where 5 Immodium is good for withdrawal from oxycodone (I have used this and it does work)...is it good for oxycontin as well?

Thanks for your replies.

" Hurt,
Do NOT stop taking your Oxy's without medical supervision!!! You can get into a LOT of trouble physically if you do that! You can go through awful withdrawals, and you really, really do not want that!
If for whatever reason, you want to stop taking your medication, call your Doctor's office on Monday and tell them that you need to see him ASAP.

Talk to him about this, this is just something that needs to be done under medical supervision. And BTW, 5 Immodium's good for Oxycodone withdrawal, HUH?????? Where did you get that from????? If you are not getting the information from your Physician, I would NOT trust it.

Take care and please, please, listen to my advice. "

" DITTO I totally agree please speak with your doctor they can advice as to how to slowly taper off. The withdrawal symptoms from oxycotin are horrible. I hated that stuff. Please don't do it alone. You could have cardiac arrest. God Speed and becareful.

Hugs,
Marci "

" hurtin- I ran out and had to go without for 4 days. The only withdrawals I experienced was sleeplessness, nightmares, and anxiety. I think by day 5 the immodium would've been in order. I agree with tipper, you need to wean off of them under the supervision of your dr. I would have but I was stupid and ran short. This was a moment of temporary insanity for me. Anyways hope it works out for you. Take Care!

" I take a mega dose compared to what you take and i get sick if I am 3 hours of not taking it but i agree that you definately need doctor supervision.
I am thinking about trying to have him help me get off of it too , to try and reset my body since I have had so many drugs (abx) going in me for so long. Good luck. "

" I have gone off and on with so many opiates. The symptoms of withdrawal are many and varied for everyone but it is not nice and can be very disturbing and painful both physically and mentally. Look it up for all the possible symptoms but here are the main ones: cold sweating, uncontrollable diarrhea, runny nose, nausea and vomiting, abdominal cramps, constipation, aching limbs, severe depression, and mounting panic. Look into suboxone as it has helped me get off of oxy and then you can wean off suboxone. Find info on suboxone here:suboxone.com/?qs=ga&gclid=CMXb1pq8_Z0CFRhfagodfQ4SpQ." title="http://www.suboxone.com/?qs=ga&gclid=CMXb1pq8_Z0CFRhfagodfQ4SpQ." target="_blank"> http://www.suboxone.com/?qs=ga...
Many doctors don't know about suboxone and there are only a select few that can prescribe it so if your doctor does not know about it, ask him to educate himself and find a doctor for you that can prescribe it. It may or may not be for you but it definitely does work. Good luck and don't take no for an answer from your doctors. "

" I am a nurse and agree with everyone, you do not go off of oxycontin without a Dr supervision, you could go into severe withdrawal, and need to be monitored by a Dr sometimes in a hospital setting. Please reconsider before doing this. Any questions let me know. I have been a nurse almost 20 yrs and have seen alot. "

" Nursemary- You said you've seen the withdrawal process many times and how severe it is... can you explain? can you tell me what you saw and can people actually die from it?

also, if someone that is very low-tolerant to medication takes something VERY SMALL like 6mg of oxycodone a day.. and that goes on for 2 years, can someone become even physically dependant/addicted to a dose even that low?
just curious.. thank you! "

" Hurtn,

Immodium? You'll end up with a colon like Elvis'.

I'm not asking your reasons for wanting off of narcs. Don't do anything without medical help. And I don't mean herbal or Oriental medical help. I plead.

Narcotics and benzodiazapines(Xanax-like medications) can send you into serious DTs, as docs call it, and you can easily hurt yourself. Your prescriber will understand. It is his job just as much as supervising your use has been.
