Depression?

I have been in pain for several years now from an undiagnosed disease. Probably an autoimmune disease but we wont get into that. The pain has ruined everything in my life. My question is:
Can you be completely miserable from pain 24/7 and not be depressed?
I feel as though im losing my mind and about to completely breakdown. But i feel as though pain pills would really help out alot and that im not depressed. Could it be depression from the pain and im not realizing it? Lately its been really hard to deal with. I have no one to talk to about how miserable i am from the pain. I just feel like if i could just get the pain under control i would be ok. Could i be depressed or could it just be from being miserable and exhausted?

" hi there,
First let me say i`m sorry you`re feeling so lousy right now.All of us on chronic pain can empathise with you ,as we`ve all been suffering with constant ,24/7 pain for varying amounts of years.
It does sound as tho` you have depression ,brought about by having to try and cope with this for so long.
Also i would understand how utterly frustrated you must be ,that nobody thus far ,has diagnosed what`s causing your pain.
I always maintained i wasn`t depressed ,but recently at an apt with my regular gp ,i realised i ticked all of the boxes for this.
I agreed to a short term antidepressant ,which not only has helped me to feel brighter ,but has also helped with my pain.
I`m not suggesting you take anything ,but i would talk to your dr??
Good luck ,i`m always here if talking to someone who is in the same position ,and understands how you might feel helps?
Much love and gentle hugs ,sharon xoxo "

" You know, I have been battling Late stage Lymes disease for about 6 years now. Have had it all my life and finally after being misdiagnosed for 15 years I found out what it is. I have battled with depression off and on throughout my life. I think alot of it was the Lyme. Now though I stay in pain and I try to keep upbeat but the pain in my eyes has made my depression worse. I use to shake it pretty easy but now it is like sometimes it swollows me up and I believe it is becase there is no reprieve from pain. Before my pain and migraines would come and go.
Lately my pain meter has been stuck on high and my depression is doing the same. So yea I think that pain definately can give it to you or make it worse if you already have it. I hope that you can find something that helps. I take SAM-E 3 tablets of 400mg in the morning and for my mild to moderate depression worked well. It is all natural and our bodies make it anyway but being in pain and other things can make our supply depleted . "

" Dear Hopeless,

Yes, you are depressed and you should absolutely seek professional help, if no other reason than to be evaluated to determine your level of need and to develop a plan from there; whether the plan includes individual or group therapy and/or psychotropic medication, or something else. I have been in chronic pain for three years now and after a year, I lost my mind and even though I have a good knowledge of mental health issues, I did not recognize my extreme and severe depression. I was far more suicidal then than I am now and was hospitalized to keep me from driving off a cliff, literally. I have been medicated with anti-depressants and while they have not been wildly successful for me, I continue to search, with the assistance of my doctor, for the right balance of psychotropic medication, along with all the other fucking medication I take for all of my health issues related to my chronic pain caused by a careless piece of shit driver. Sorry to kind of go off on a tangent and while I could have deleted this from the text, I guess I wanted to share it with you all. I have great hope in Karma!

Hopeless, please seek the guidance of your doctor or call your local community mental health agency for an evaluation or referral.

" I agree pain causes depression. I see a physciatrist and take prozac currently. However, my pain is getting worse and the prozac is not helping like it use to. I will tell my doctor that. Suicidal thoughts come and go for me but when I look into my grandaughters eyes I say what the hell why would I ever want to miss watching her grow up. My pain management doc reccommended I see the physciatrist and I knew I needed to. My family needs me and yours needs you. Seek help and use all of us here at DS we listen very well. God bless stay strong and keep fighting please. "
