Your Med Combination....?

I'm most interested in what other patients with stubborn, moderate to severe pain take daily to obtain relief.I know that there is usually the main medication with another for breakthrough pain...does that mean that both are actually taken in one given day? I know that I have always needed both and wonder if this is the norm or if the main medication should totally eradicate most of the pain? Or do people need both and routinely take both daily?

" In my experience, a long-acting pain med, with a secondary med for breakthrough pain is the standard. I believe it is necessary for those with chronic pain. Currently for this broken ankle I am using Percoset and Norco. Not the standard combo, but the Percoset is only for the break. Waiting on referrals to a new pain doc and have appointment with neuro clinic in December.
Snake, you made me laugh out loud. I had an ordeal with the sheriff's office here in August. After my severe shingles outbreak, my daughter (back in LA) panicked when I told her how sick I was on the phone and called emergency up here asking them to do a safety check on me (because I am alone and I was deathly ill). They woke me up. I was so pissed off. I left the security door locked. They shined a flashlight inside and asked me to come out. I said no way. They then asked me if I had been drinking, and I really got pissed off then. Needless to say, I told them to get off my porch. They kept arguing with me, stating that I had to come out so they could see if I was okay. I told them again to leave. Finally they did. I was so sick from shingles I thought I was losing my mind, and I certainly did not need these cops bothering me. I guess because I worked with so many bailiffs they just do not phase me. And, you are right, unless you invite them in (open the door to them), technically they cannot come in without a warrant. Because my daughter telephoned in a safety check on me, they could have pushed their authority. After it was so comical because I was so pissed off, standing in the doorway with my pajamas on, and refusing to unlock the door. The sheriffs up here have nothing better to do compared to Sac. Oh, and I did have a nice talk with my daughter (please do not call in any more favors for me). Thanks for the great laugh. I needed it after this day. "
