If it gets published, (with the right outcomes)It may help many people on long-term pain meds be able to drive without fear of prosecution...

I have been driving while taking Methadone and Dilaudid and none of those medications make me impaired to drive. I feel as normal with those meds as I do when I drink a glass of lemonade...

I'd rather see them do a study on better ways to control pain.
Nothing frustrates me more than thinking about how much time, money, and over paid researchers are coming up with ways to grow more, longer, thicker eyelashes, when all I can think of is why aren't they spending their time, and resources trying to find a cure for cancer, chronic pain, and so very many other worthy life-threatening causes....and then I remember....money, it's about money! Sorry just had to rant!

Kon,
All I have to say is a big AMEN!!!!! You are sooooooo right! Instead of spending monies in how good or bad a person on opioid medications drive (BTW, I don't even have a ticket in my 44 years of driving), they should be spending that money in new medications that can cure people in chronic and/or intractable pain! To me, it is a waste of resources and money!

No results have yet been written up. Let's hope the results aren't showing that the 80 or so people in the study group drove even a tiny bit less "carefully" than the control groups. If that happens, we are all screwed.
The BEST outcome would be the people in pain being VERY impaired while driving and those on meds not impaired at all. I noticed they didn't say HOW LONG the test subjects were using their meds. Most of us need a good 6 weeks or so to get used to new meds, so I HOPE the test subjects have been on their meds for a period of time. Enough to get used to them. And of course you KNOW the press (especially biased "press" like FOX NEWS) will report ANY findings as bad. "Three per cent of a group of dope using drivers performed 5% or less efficiently than the nondruged control group. Should doped up drivers be STOPPED from driving? Are YOUR CHILDREN AT risk from these dopers? Report at 9:00." I can just hear it now....

CORRECTION I should have said "The best outcome would be people in pain WHO ARE NOT MEDICATED will be VERY impaired."
Fox would still find some alarmist way to make even the best study look bad.

What's the agenda of those funding the study? If I am funding a project, I can dictate what I want findings to be, or pull my money out.
Say I'm Ajax, and I want a scientific study that Ajax works better than Comet. If the researcher deviates, I fire him, scrap the study, and find another researcher who will prove what I want. The government of course would never do that... or do you think that govt. funded research on the benefits or risks of a given food may influence the commodities trading among Congressmen? Naw, not our public servants.... -Snake

After reading the new replies I just have to add one of my favorite Edward Abbey quotes, (Snake reminded me of it).
"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government." With all the DEA crap going down on the Dr's trying to treat us CP patients...this saying has never been more true.
