This is insane...
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/200... They voted to BAN Vicodin and Percocet. Too upset to type. Thoughts? Posted on 06/30/09, 06:06 pm |

It sounds like they are voting to eliminate the Tylenol in the drugs, not the narcotic.
I can't say that I think this is bad. When I can't afford my meds, the doc prescribes the narcotic ALONE and lets me choose a generic tylenol. That saves me a ton of money. Of course, if this is the slippery sloap then this is a serious issue. Just giving my thoughts from reading the article.

I read in detail about this. Since tylenol causes fatal liver damage, they have voted to change the maximum dosage of tylenol or acet. in other meds like vicodin. The limit recommended is no more than 4000 milligrams in a 24 hour period and making 1000 mg doses available by prescription only. This will not affect any of the pills that have 500 mg of acet. or less in a pill. Darvacet w/ 625 mg for example may need to change if dosage wants to include the ability to take two.
So DON'T PANIC.

I heard this in the AM CBS morning news and what they want to do is reduced or eliminate the amount of Acetaminophen on Vicodin and Percocet since the acetaminophen is what damages the liver not the Hydrocodone on the medication, so If I was you I will not get too upset. It will actually be a good thing to eliminate the acetaminophen on those medications, they will be safer to take.

Here is one of my gripes about it.... They voted to ban these pain meds, but did not vote to ban cough and cold meds that have acetominephen...makes NO sense to me whatsoever

Hi ValerieP,
I agree it is insane, I heard about this earlier today, and I just think its stupid that you may have to ask your doctor for a prescription for tylenol now. I have Chronic pain due to several anal Fistulas I have, that are related to my crohns disease. They feel like hemorrhoids on the outside, but there holes in the lower part of the rectum around the sphincter muscle area, and since that would put me in adult diapers if they messed with that, I just have to deal with the pain the rest of my life somehow.. Either that or have a permanent ostomy, which at our young age I'm not ready for that step just yet, so I've been dealing with it thru prescription pain killers. It feels like your being stabbed in the behind in 5 different places around the crack area, sorry but its the best way I can describe what the pain is like, so nothing works entirely. I'll be the first to admit, I'm addicted to Darvocet, but when your in that much pain, what else can ya do, ya know? Darvocet seems to work better for me then vicotin does for some strange reason, never have figured out why, but the constipation that darvocet inflicts, is really a relief when it comes to rectal issues, especially when your having diarrhea issues from the intestines, so it was easy for me to become addicted to it... Right now, the doctor has me on vicotin, just a 30 day supply. I don't know much about these drugs, I do know they'll only give you so much vicotin, like 30 days max, for some odd reason, but my family doctor said since Darvoet is only a step up from tylenol, that he's ok with giving me as much of that as I need, which was darn lucky, but now I switched to a new doctor in a new town, who prefers vicotin over darvocet, but will only give me so much, like 30 pills max, so right now I'm taking 2 year old darvocet just to get thru the day...but soon that darvocet will be gone, and I won't know what to do then :( but I tell ya hon, the pain is so bad, that even Delaudid (10x morphine) doesn't take the pain away, I know because thats what they gave me in ER a couple of times when I had some really bad episodes with those, but most of the time darvocet is enough to null the pain enough so I can function, just makes me real talkative. hehe. he told me not to take darvocet and tylenol at the same time, told me to take advil instead, but advil or ibuprofein, makes my stomach bleed, so I don't know if there is anything else besides advil I can take or not? I just know i have taken Darvocet and Tylenol before at the same time without problems, fact I feel better doing that, so I don't know, but I don't know if darvocet will be enough to null the pain without tylenol in it or not, I just don't know, so I understand your frustration, for you won't know if its going to work or not until you try it I guess. either way, you could always take tylenol with it, thats what I do, even though they tell you not to, I've done it before without any problems...

but when I take tylenol, darvocet, or vicotin, I don't take a whole lot either, because I'm afraid of what will happen to me on it chronically, ya know what I mean? I know the withdrawl symptoms of Darvocet are unbelievable, I get angry, bitter, and just downright mean when I'm in withdrawal from darvocet, and thats SCARES me, because I didn't want to be addicted to Darvocet, or anything else, in the first place, just wanted the pain to stop... :(
but anyway cuz of that, I only take 1 darvocet twice a day max, thats the most I've ever taken of it, or sometimes I'll mix 2 arthritis strength tylenol with 1 darvocet, which when I do that gets rid of the pain all day, so I don't have to take another one, so those are the kinds of things I try to do to keep myself from becoming completely addicted to it, but I know I still am addicted to it, since I've been doing that off and on for the last 4-5 years now..
