pressure in daughters face- HELP PLEASE

I am at my wits end. My daughter ( age 24) developed a kind of constant pressure in her face near her temple. It goes from side to side, sometimes moving into her forehead. At first they thought it was a sinus infection which turned out not to be the case. Then they thought it was impacted wisdom teeth. She had both upper and lowers removed, after she recovered, the pressure was still there.
Then she went to the ER and had MRIs with contrast. Nothing shower up. Thank goodness, no tumors, not was it seizures.
She recently saw a Neurologist who thinks it may be a manifestation of migraines. He put her on Topamax which makes her very loopy and fatigued.
But after two weeks on this medication, she STILL has this pressure.
She says its not pain, but like her head is in a vise, 24/7.
She has missed 5 weeks of work and is terrified no one will figure this out and take it away. She wants her life back.
Does anyone relate to this bizarre symptom? Or has it? Or know someone who went through this?
I can't stand seeing my daughter afraid to leave her house and be in such constant awareness of this "pressure"
Thanks for any and all advice, help or suggestions on what to do next.
Debra

" Did her Doctor checked her for TMJ?? What about a frontal sinus infection? I don't know, I can not think of anything else..... Do you have a teaching University Hospital in your town? Those are the best places to take someone that has some type of disease or condition that stumps Doctor's in the outside, so you might want to try that. Good luck to you and your daughter! "

" Pain happens for a reason, letting us know what is going on.
Try going to a different doctor as he/she might suggest something else is happening.
With my foot, i went to 19 different doctors before they told me what was wrong. They all thought one thing and treated me for that but when i had mris done was was when i found out what was happening.
Dont give up. "

" I agree, get another opinion and if that doesn't work, get another! I am at that stage now. I was just sent to a PM doc for the first time after being diag. with 2 brain tumors almost 2 years ago. It is not looking good! Now HE doesn't return calls, suprise! Your daughter is in my prayers! "

" Have you read into trigeminal neuralgia? that is what i have: it is 24/7 constant facian pain. did the neuologist she saw not suggest this? the most common first steps are ruling out TMJ/tooth pain and migraines. Believe me, I went through the same thing. It was a good 2 yrs before they FINALLY figured out what it was. "

" Thanks for the suggestions. She was checked for a sinus infection. She had contrast MRI's done and upper and lower left side wisdom teeth removed.
She is now under the care of a neurologist who think it may be weird migraines.
But she insists its NOT pain but intolerable pressure.
I will mention the TMJ and trigeminal neuralgia to her.
While I was at my own Pre-admissions test, the nurse practioner mention Chiari malformation.
I am going to undergo a trial for the pain pump. "

" Has she been in any area which she could have got bitten by a Lyme infested tick? Does she like the outdoors? The reason I am asking is I have had Lyme for a long time and their are days that I get pressure in my head. It comes and goes. The thing is everything a regular doctor tells people about Lymes is usually wrong. Like they sau "most" people get the bulls eye or rash. Only 30% dose. And just like me depemding on how long you have had it you might test negative on their ELISA test. Maybe google "LYME SYMPTOMS" and see if she has any other symptoms there are so many that mimic other diseases. I wish you luck with finding a cure or at least an answer. "

" actually, expanding on tipper1207's comment: I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth out at 16 which was part of the issue. I started having migranes at 19 (first time it was like a stroke, the right side of my face went numb and wasn't talking normally). by the time I was 21 i was having full-blown migranes and could be sick for up to 2 days. The easiest way to describe my migraines is that it feels like an "ice headace". I have had the obligatory MRI, CAT scans and Xrays...they have all showed NOTHING. I still deal with them but not as severe. (by the way I am just shy of my 49th birthday). To make this short, I have myofascial pain/fibromyalgia and the TMJ with a couple of accidents thrown in. Where I believe all of this comes from is: genetics (totally runs in my family), biomechanics (how my body is wired: including my bones, muscles and nerves), stress, clenching/gnashing my teeth (TMJ) and the big one...Sometimes it can be something as simple as repetitive motion that irritates the area of my shoulders and my neck. I know it's hard to figure out, but go thru the basic test and if you can locate a pain clinic or migraine clinic it may at least start narrowing it down as to where the problems are. I wish you both the best. If there is anything else, please feel free to ask. "

" I was thinking what tipper said- TMJ. The pressure can spread all the way up into the head and temple areas. I have TMJ and it often feels like a sinus infection, some days it's real tight feels like my heads gonna explode!! I feel for your daughter. I hope they can find an answer soon. keep DS updated.
