I cannot believe it had been so long since I have blogged here. Nothing much has changed other than the season. I have been doctoring and trying to forget about pain. But it haunts me every waking moment. Distractions are hard because I am running out of ways to distract myself from the pain.
When I heard the news of Micheal Jackson passing and how they are looking for his doctor who prescribed him pain meds, I thought of my support group right away. I am sorry I have not been here lately. I hope he didnt accidentally overdose on these pain meds because it will make it more difficult for people to get them ( i think). I will ck all my messages and hugs and get back to everyone real soon. Sitting hurts so it will be a bit. God Bless and feel free to comment if you like. love donna Posted on 06/26/09, 01:06 pm |

According to a press conference that his brother (one of them just had), the Doctor was there with him when he died and he tried to resucitate him. The Doc had just given MJ a Demerol injection, so who knows............ But one more time I am sure that CNN, Fox and all of them are going to start talking about the "huge" problem that we have in America about prescription drug abuse and how more controls should be placed, etc, etc..... and that will affect people like you and me and all of us here on this board that are in CP 24/7, 365!
Pathetic, isn't??

Yikes. I was trying to find the good in this MJ event - that perhaps his children would now have a more well-balanced upbringing. I hadn't even thought of the pain med issue.
He was underweight and run-down, and certainly was not your average pain management patient! People with that much money can always create avenues above and beyond normal limits, have access to docs in foreign countries, etc., so a well-balanced news report, or the average thinking person would have to take this into consideration, I think, or should I say hope.

Celebrities are in a world of their own. They have $$ and access to just about anything including several doctors looking to pad their wallets. Just look what happened to Ana Nicole Smith. Hopefully, the world is intelligent enough to distinguish that the problem in Hollywood does not trickle down to us. Of course the media won't - but they are a part of the Hoolywood scene of the rich and famous. It is a shame what happened but very unlikely any chronic pain patient that is a "regular person" would have access to the amount of medications that celebrities do.
Welcome back Mikky. :)

Hello Friends ~
I believe as you PamPrince, celebrities have access to ridiculous amounts of any type of meds they fancy and the people surrounding them are usually only too happy to enable them! The one interview I listened to yesterday was with the lawyer that recently represented him against the child molestation charges. He said that Mr. Jackson would take all sorts of meds because his legs bothered him and he had difficulty walking. He went on to say he could not confirm whether the pain was real or something of a mental manifestation. My hope is like many of yours, the public is able to distinguish between CP patients with our limited access to meds and celebrities that have access to so many meds they do themselves a mischief! As many here, my fear is that the "prescription drug problem" will make is difficult for those of us in REAL pain, who do not have our own bought and paid for Prescription Writing Doctor living with us, are not spoiled by getting everything we want all the time and who have NEVER harmed a child will SUFFER from the outpouring of "St. Micheal's" more than expected overdose.
One more nail in the Chronic Pain Patients coffin of Freedom and Right To Treatment. Thanks Mike, you sick child molester....I hope you burn.

I have also been watching the coverage and I have to agree with you guys. I wonder how many PM Docs are watching this ?? Last night Dr. Drew Pinsky the addiction Dr. from Celebrity Rehab on VH i was telling I think Larry King about the epedemic of painkiller addiction. Also Dr. Depak Chopra. Everyone is entitled to their own agenda/opinion. BUT its like with everything in this world there is NOT one set of circumstances that apply to all people. I wonder if the people speaking out have had to deal with chronic pain. Probably not. I just hope I can find a kind and caring Doc. But yeah it makes me nervous as hell. Like I need another thing to stress over. Lord help us ALL, Deb

Hello Friends ~
I saw an interview along the same lines as you Debala, it was on Anderson Cooper 360 the guests were Dr. Drew Pinksy and Dr. Sanjay Gupta did anyone else see it? Here is a link to the transcript - http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCR... If you go about half way down the page the interview begins and you can read what Dr. Drew has to say about CP. I think it is unfortunate that doctors like that are making statements like he does implying that all CP sufferers 'doctor shop'. I am not naive to the fact that there are CP patients that do take part in this practice but it is generally patients that are not CP sufferers that are giving the rest of us a bad name! Also, what does he consider 'doctor shopping?' Putting MJ aside, if we cannot find relief with our pain specialists do we not have the right to look for a doctor that will work with us enough to eleviate our misery? If it were something like a broken leg or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, he likely would not think twice of us looking for a second opinion but because meds are involved does he consider us 'doctor shoppers'? Crafty,
Thank you so much for posting this transcript. You Dr.Drew is one that has in several occassions gone out on CNN and other networks to say that "all" people that take prescription medications for pain are drug addicts and Doc shoppers, etc. It ticks me off when I see and read stuff like this. Everytime that one of these morons in the entertainment business died because of prescription drug abuse is us the real people in pain that have to deffend our cause. Is not enough for us to be in pain, is not enough for us to have to sign contracts with our Doctor's, is not enough! We also have to defend our usage of these medications so we can survive and live a "semi" normal life. It disgusts me, it makes me so mad!

~Just to add~
Another thing that has stuck in my 'craw' for awhile now is shows like; (and please, I do watch these shows myself so I am not 'attacking' them) Oprah and Dr. Phil. They will do episode after episode about 'drug addicted soccer moms', and 'secret addictions' etc. about people that may in the beginning have been prescribed pain meds after surgery or what have you but then become addicted to them. They never differentiate between those types of people and the CP sufferers like us, so again we are painted with the same brush! Just once I would like for one of them to have a 'professional' on to explain that not all persons using opiates are or are going to be addicts because there are a group of people that exist that require these meds just to put to floor in the morning!
