I have been on avinza & most recently methadone with norco used for breakthrough lower back pain. Went to see spinal specialist who feels norco is not working because I have taken it for a while. The advinza & methadone are too sedating- I keep forgeting things & feel too drugged.Does anyone know if percocet will be better?

" As always what works for one patient may or may not work the same way for another patient but I find percocet and oxycontin to not be sedating whatsoever. "

" Percocet alone might not be enough for your pain after been on Methadone and Avinza, but like someone said, what is sedating to you is not someone else. I am on Methadone and Oxycodone for BT pain and I am as alert as a baby at 3 AM all of the time! "

" I've used percocet after surgery. It didn't make me drowsy at all. However it didn't last more then 4 hours and the pain was back with a vengance. I have yet to be put on any long acting pain meds. Hopefully you can find some relief soon. Big hugs! "

" Percocet is oxycodone and tylenol combined. Long term use of tylenol can really mess up your stomach and liver.

The first number of the strengh is the mg. of oxycodone and the second number is the amount of tylenol.

Example 5/325 is 5 mg. oxy and 325 tylenol. 10/650 is 10 mg. oxy and 650 tylenol.

I was on it for a year, but just 2 months ago I had my doctor switch me from percocet to just straight oxycodone - the percocet without tylenol.

I figure I dont need to be killing my kidneys and stomach with all the tylenol and if the oxycodone alone doesn't work, I can always take a couple tylenol on my own. I find the straight oxycodone is just as effective as the percocet was, but much better on my organs.

Oxycodone is not the same thing as oxycontin. They are similar, but not the same. I would ask your doctor for 10 mg. of oxycodone to avoid all the tylenol. "
