Im sorry trust me this is because of my pain and neuroapthy. I started having steriod epidural nerve blocks in August 08 and get them about every three months or so. I also take Lyrica and Cymbalta plus phenergan. I was 85 pounds have been for most of my life Im 4'8 and it was a healthy weight for me. I was very active and even did a 26.2 mile marathon three times. I twirled and rode my bike everywhere on the base I lived because it was so small and I did not have or need a car.

Anyways now I have ballooned to 110 pounds and have these just terrible purple stretch marks all the way around and down my legs I look like Im preggo and yes people do ask me how far along I am. it hurts so much to have this happen I try to go to the gym and move around as much as I can but some days I just cannot do it. Lyrica was the only one that finally helped my pain and honestly so do the nerve blocks. But im starting to wonder which is truly better for me the pain or becoming obese because I keep gaining weight like crazy. I gained 10 pounds last week and I have no idea of how. I eat normally meat, fruit, veggies. ok some ice cream here or there but its yogurt. I dont know what to do im afraid for my hubby to see them kinda afraid he will not be attracted to me anymore. My sister told me that once you get stretch marks they never leave. My hubby has them on his back but these I just dont know I feel horrible about my body as it is I dont see me when I look in the mirror. The pictures I have on here on me ya just add thirty pounds in my face, tummy, and legs and you go it. Im sorry for whining but I needed to get it out I dont know how to lose the weight while on these meds and people keep telling me its water weight? ya I think they are trying to make me feel better. I dunno any suggestions about what I can do? Stopping my meds is not an option for me im barely just now finding what works for me. geez the things we go through for relief. I just want these purple marks to go away. makes me cry to see myself anymore i keep getting bigger and bigger

" I'm sorry this is happening to you! I can't imagine what it's like! I've been small all my life too and to have someone ask me how far along I am? I might lose it! But, you really need to talk to your doctor. They might have ideas as to similar meds you could try or one you could add to help fend off the weight. Make sure you tell them exactly how you told us here, tell them what this is doing to you on top of having to deal with the horrible pain, MAKE them understand. As for the stretch marks, cocoa butter lotion enriched with tons of Vitamin E or pure Vitamin E oil might help. My aunt used it when she was pregnant and she had great skin, not one stretch mark. I hope you find a solution soon, I'll be sending positive energy your way to help you fend off the weight and find a better solution for your pain...

Much love,
Lisa "

" Lyrica adds weight to a lot of people. I gained 30 pounds in 3 weeks on it. I went off it at that point, it wasn't doing anything for the pain anyway. The stretch marks won't go away, but they do fade with time. The Dermatologist can prescribe a medicine that will help fade them. I can't remember the name but I have used it for scars and it helped. I have taken steriod injections in the back but didn't gain any weight with them, only the Lyrica. This happened once before when I tried Ambilify for depression. Same thing except I couldn't stop thinking about when I would be able to eat again. It was awful! "

" Meds will make you gain weight. What about fluid retention? Ask your doc. "

" lycria makes you gain weight.I'm going through this at the moment.I have asked the pain clinic to swap me back to gabapention.
It's horrible gaining weight.
I was 45 kilos when i started the lycria and now i cant fit into my normal clothes.
Some medication hold water weight as well.
It's hard to lose weight when in chronic pain as well. "

" Lyrica causes weight gain in nearly everyone that takes it. As for gaining 10 pounds in a week, that's fluid retention. It takes 3500 extra calories to gain one pound. In order to gain 10 pounds, you would have had to eaten 35,000 extra calories in just 7 days and that's almost impossible. Obviously, Lyrica is also causing you water retention, which is also a side effect. My suggestion is to have your doctor find an alternate medication for you to take. If you keep gaining weight, the excess weight is only going to increase your pain to the point where nothing will help. "

" Unfortunately, weight gain seems to part of the chronic pain game. It sucks. Alot of the medications cause weight gain. And of course for those of us who used to particularly active who suddenly aren't - we start packing on the pounds. Why don't you ask your pain managemnt doctor to add on some kind of physical therapy program? Maybe a physical therapist can work out a safe exercise program for you. One of the medications I take is Topamax - it's an antiseizure medication used to treat headaches, at high doses one of the side effects is actually weight loss. I haven't lost any weight - but I've at least been maintaining my weight now since I've stopped taking steroids. Good luck to you - hopefully you'll find a way to get a little more active. "

" Hun,I am so sorry to see that you are having to deal with this right now and when I say I understand,I truly do as I am having the exact same problem.I am on Lyrica,Tramadol,Amatriptyline,Paracetamol,Omeprazole.I do my best to eat right, but I can't excersize because of the pain and I have gone up 4 dress sizes in 7 months.
I have mentioned it to my gp who just seems to think that it because I sit on my butt all day and eat crap!!!The nurses at the pain clinic are very good but having been told that I should stick to the excersizes that they give me and not push myself or I will head for payback,
I also hate being naked around my partner as he as known me as a smaller, thiner, almost different person and I would hate for him to feel repulsed by my body.I have talked to him about this and he tells me he loves me and still fancies me and that I look at myself differently to how he sees' me.
Have you spoken about this and your feelings about it to your doctor??Or you husband??Maybe your doctor could try a different dose or med for you??Or an exersize plan, swimming??I so wish that we could enjoy the benefits of these meds but irradicate the awful side effects huh??!!??Hun I will be offline for a couple of days but if you need to chat pm me and I will get back to you asap when I get my laptop back(from the computer doctors!!!)Hugs xxxxx "

" I am glad you are looking for help NOW! I gained 100lbs on Nortryptline and now, even though I quit taking it-I can eat about 100 calories a day and still gain weight somehow. I am sure it is the other meds also, and I am taking Lyrica. Thing with me was I was soooo depressed that I didn't see the weight coming until it was way too late.
The VA hospital can set you up with a nutritionist who knows what the meds do to us. I immediately bulked at the idea. I DIDN'T NEED SOMEONE ELSE TO TELL ME HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT!
After gaining over 100lbs, I decided to join the hospitals MOVE program and they even gave me a pedometer. They only "butt in" when I ask for it, otherwise they give me information and let me decide what will work best.
I am assuming, since you said "base" that you were in the military. (As was I) So the hospital you go to for pain management should have a nutritionist as well as the move program. My husband joined with me and he is not a disabled Veteran, he is just a veteran. (I didn't mean it the way it sounded-all Veteran's are something more than "just a Veteran"
I found the more unhappy I became with my weight the more depressed I became and there is something about depression...where you can gain 50lbs by looking at a piece of cake.
Try and lift your spirits, love you for who you are now, and your husband will love you too.
It's funny, as I am writing this, there is an ad on the right talking about losing 5 lbs this week!
I would join a weight loss group in Daily Strength also.
Write me back if you want to keep in touch, the more friends I have, the more I like myself! "

" I agree with the other posts. Screw the Lyrica, I don't need any help with weight gain! My self esteem is already shot, so no I will never take it. I am 30 lbs overweight. I know what I need to do to lose it, its the follow up that I cannot accomplish. You can't possibly be offensive to your hubby. Heck I was 110 at about hmm 16 yrs old. I would feel like Pam Anderson if I weighed that little. For awhile after I left my husband I lost weight, couldn't eat. Well I got over that! Hell I get a kick out of biscuits, I think I have a biscuit addiction. I am seriously going to try and do better. After I finish this box of twinkies, then I will buy no more !!! Can't fit into my size 10 so I need to nip it now before it goes too far. You can do it, please don't be too hard on yourself, I think that is not very helpful. Good Luck, and know we are always here for you. There is a kindred spirit here in the chub club ! When your in pain its the last thing we want to do is over exert and further the freakin pain. I don't even want to get dressed to even have to go outside, I might scare the neighborhood children. Gentle Hugs, Deb "
