An old friend of ours from Fla is having trouble getting scripts filled. Pharmacies and doctors are shying away from treating with opiods down there. So out of respect for this one old friend and her state I decided to post this here just for general info. The flyer isn't what I would say but oh well...here it is. You can check into it if you like. It's about those mainly in Florida who can't get help any longer. And they fear it will spread from state to state and get worse. you decide....

RALLY, Come Join Us!
Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Tallahassee, Florida
Fight For Pain Care Action Network is a grassroots organization
of chronic pain patients, their families, caregivers, professionals
and other like minded members of Society, that is dedicated
to preventing needless human suffering thereby improving
the quality of life for those affected by chronic intractable
pain through advocacy, support and education.
How do we do this?
• By removing the barriers, stigma and negativity against legitimate pain
patients with chronic pain.
• By cultivating an understanding of what life is like for patients with chronic
pain to citizens who have never experienced such.
• Develop training for pain patients and their families to advocate for
themselves, while assisting them with a collective voice to be heard.
• With the encouragement of research to 􀃶nd new ways to relieve chronic pain.
The upcoming Rally on September 12th is a result of the legislative
changes voted in to close down the “Pill Mills.” They not only closed
many of the pill mills, they also denied pain medications to those
who needed them the most. The Rally in Tallahassee is to ensure
our voice is heard, and the abusive, random denial of meds changes!

Well I did what I told someone I would do. If you want more info contact these people for info.
Sure hope your pain needs are being met. I'm doing ok....can't believe my rfa has lasted over a year now. And I am going to the pool and using water jets to assist with muscle pain.
Well I hope the country settles down and pain patients can get their scripts filled and abusers get shut down.
Take care.

" I have a DS friend who moved from New York state to Florida last year. She has lupus, severe DDD and fibro, plus some other conditions that cause pain. She had her pain specialist in NY refer her to one in Florida that was supposed to be a good one, however the new doc told her no way would he continue to prescribe ANY pain meds for her. She had to titrate down to zero opiates, and is now only able to use OTC meds, which are doing nothing for her pain. She has looked into the situation and been consistently told that no pain Dr in Florida will give her opiates. I feel so bad for her, because I sit here with well controlled pain, due to having good pain meds, and she has to suffer with no relief. Makes me so darn angry! "

" i'm glad to hear they r making a stand. we have to do something other than complain about how we are treated. it is having a ripple effect. right now fl is the extreme state in this but it is coming to all of us.

in my area we hear Tramadol constantly. this med doesn't help most ppl. and is not suppose to be used long term.

ty liveswithhope and its great to see you here! "

" I live in FL as well but I have a really good conservative pain doc. We did try opioid meds first to see if they worked. But nothing helped with my pain at all. I finally was given the pain pump which I have no control over. This at least touches the pain.

But you're right, FL is the strictest state at the moment. Partially because of how easy it was to get narcotics down here. There were people coming literally from other states to get massive amounts of pain meds. They have since instilled safe guards such as signing a contract with your current pain med provider so you can't doctor shop. If you do you can go to jail. Also when you first have a narcotic filled at a pharmacy, they are implementing an informational system that is statewide where they swipe your id to see if you are going to other pharmacies in a short period of time to get narcotic medications.

When I went to my pain doc for the first time, they had copies of all of the scripts I had been given for pain meds before I saw him. He explained how the system now works and so did my GP.

This was done to prevent people from doc hopping and pharmacy shopping to get as many pills as possible. FL was a horrible state and is starting to clean up their act. I think they finally realized that these "pill mills" were doing more harm than good and there was no accountability. Unfortunately, people like us are made to go through the ringer in order to get any type of pain relief.

I am glad to see there is a grassroots organization coming together to make it easier for chronic pain patients who truly need these meds in order to have a quality of life. I am fortunate to have found the saint of a doc that I have. But many docs out there just hand pills out like they are candy. I wish I could go to this function, but I am still not able to sit in a car for that long and can't be out in the heat. But I will be there in spirit!!

Thanks for passing along the info!

Gentle hugs,
Jenna "

" Thanks, livewithhope,
I recently read an article on Yahoo! about just this. I lived in Fla until about 10 years ago, but then I had no problem getting scripts filled for cp. Things have really changed!
Does this organization have a website? I'd like to read more...
Thanks for the post!
Sandy "
