Hey guys.
I was told a while back that I have fibromyalgia but I don't think that is my issue. I have constant sore muscles all over & I feel bruised, mostly in my legs. It limits my activity & over the past 15 years has been getting worse. I had some tests run several years ago but they were inconclusive & right now insurance is an issue. Has anyone had a diagnosis for similar symptoms? Thanks, dj Posted on 07/27/12, 07:32 pm |

Maybe -- maybe not-- hard to tell since there are no conclusive tests.
Sounds like Fibromyalgia to me.

But it also sounds like it could be myofascial pain syndrome, which tends to run with fibro too. Sometimes drs get the two confused and one ends up with a fibro dx when they only have MPS.
There is a forum on here for myofascial pain syndrome. That's what I have. Check out our board and see if the symptoms fit you.

I could have written this describing my issues and my DX is FIbro. Hope you get the correct answers. Are you being treated for FM with the right meds and if so have you had your meds change. Sometimes our bodies become prone to meds when taken for awhile. Best of luck

Fibromyalgia is such a difficult DX to nail down because there really isn't a definitive "test" for it. You basically have to meet a certain set of criteria and you get treated for it.
For a true Fibro DX you have to have pain in 11 of 18 main tender points, did you meet that criteria? You say your pain is mostly in your legs....when you say you feel bruised, do you actually get bruises? Some types of anemias would casuse widespread pain and bruises. True Fibro patients generally always have chronic fatigue syndrome and sleeping issues, you didn't mention those...do you have these issues? If you feel comfortable sharing, what are you being treated with currently? what meds? or therapies? Kat

I also have fibro, but my pain is wide spread. How were you diagnosed with it? Do you meet the pain point criteria? With fibro, usually the pain is all over but everyone is different.
Are you on any meds for fibro? (i.e., Lyrica). A fibro flare feels like the flu- tired, achy, just feel like crap all the time, no matter how much rest you get. I hope you get an answer soon. Keep us informer. Sandy

I was told I had fibro. THe doc tested only the "sites" and declared me DX'd. He refused to pay attetnion to the fact that the rest of my body hurt the same.
I accepted this until nearly dead. Ended up in ICU for a week. They found it was celiac. You sound exactly like me. You could try gluten free for 90 days. It is not dangerous to stop eating gluten. If you feel better, then you are closer to a DX.

From what I read about fibromyalgia there are flareups & my pain is constant. I was on Cymbalta for a long time as part of a cocktail for my bipolar II disorder & I know that is supposed to help the pain but it didn't. Massage is suggested but that is too painful. I can't stand for long periods of time & have to constantly shift positions when sitting to change the pressure on the back of my legs. I don't get actual bruises. It just feels like I am bruised when touched. Would love a definitive answer & solution.
Thanks so much for your input!! dj

Ditto what katlyn said. Another description often associated with fibro or mfp is it feels like a really bad case of the flu.
I hope you can get some answers soon. Hugs

My pain is constant. I feel like the muscles are bruised sometimes. Massage is very painful. Sometimes different parts of my body are worse than others. Feeling like you have the flu forever is also part of fibro.
A lot gets blamed on Fibro. You may also have disc problems that they have not looked at. Keep after the doctors and see if you can get them to look farther. Good luck. -RJ

I do have disc problems, rj. I have spinal stenosis & 3 herniated discs in my lower back. I know that can cause pain down the leg which I often have but it wouldn't be causing the other pain. I know I have several issues going on at once & maybe some are connected. And believe me, this does not help the dark depression that comes with the bipolar II stuff.
