I am not happy that they recalled Darvocet. Anyone else? I think it was a good med for pain that wasn't as heavy as Vicoden but stronger than over the counters when necessary. Now I don't feel safe.

" IMO, Darvocet and Darvon didn't work too well for me. It was one of those medications that either worked for people or it just plain old didn't. The ER dr's that I have worked with loved to RX it for those that came in for minor accident victims, broken noses, broken fingers etc... The less painful injuries. Now that those 2 are off of the market, they have been RX'ing tramadol to those injuries.

Maybe you could talk to your Dr and see what he thinks about that med? It is a very mild pain killer and it seems to act the same as Darvocet/Darvon. It either works for people or it doesn't. And when I say it seems to act the same, I mean by it working or not, they are not made of the same type of medication FYI.

" Hi SoCal!

I took Darvocet up until it got recalled. My doctor started me on Nucynta. It's not an opiate. It takes care of my pain without the weird feelings of narcs. Maybe you could ask your doctor about it?

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck! "

" I'm with you - Darvocet worked great for me, and I can't take tramadol because I'm on Cymbalta (serotonin syndrome risk). Stuck I am!! My ortho doc gives me tylenol with codeine at my request. He had given me Vicodin, but it was too strong to take at work. I actually have my husband break the T3's in 1/2 and take 1/2 of one at work when I feel the Motrin800 not working - it's just enough to take the edge of for me! "

" Darvocet did not work for me either, it was like I was taking an aspirin, but I know that what works for one person, does not necessarily works for others. I hope that you find a med that will work for you. Take care, "

" I have tried tramadol and that was not enough for me.
but the Doc was saying they were putting people on Nucynta and having great results. Nucynta (tapentadol) is a mu-opioid agonist and is a sced two controlled substance.
but something you might want to look into "

" Ultram and Tylenol #3 are roughly equivalent in potency. Propoxyphene had some concerning cardiac effects. "

" That is what is scary with taking meds you can take them thinking they are safe and then bam years later they pull it and say it is not safe. I know that this is going to happen every once in a blue moon but lately it seems there is a blue moon more often then it should be. "

" Fortunately, it is rare that a long used medication is later found to be dangerous. "

" I took it for 14 years! I'm scared now that I did some damage to my heart. I did think it was a great painkiller, though. In summertime when my RSD isn't as bad, I would take Darvocet instead of MSIR as breakthrough. I guess I'll just take ibuprofen or tylenol this summer. I don't know why, but Darvocet worked amazingly for me. In a way, I preferred it to morphine in that it killed the breakthrough pain well, but it just didn't last as long. I'm just upset that they knew it was problematic and didn't tell us. Yet on the other hand, I miss it. I'm ambivalent about it, I guess. "

" I took Darvocet for a few days a number of years ago, and hated it. It did nothing for my pain. All I did was sit around crying and thinking about suicide all day. I was also taking Prozac at the time, and the combination of Prozac and Darvocet was known to cause such symptoms in some people.

Believe the warnings about tramadol/Ultram and SSRIs taken in combination. Two different doctors, several years apart, prescribed Ultram for me rather than prescribe an opioid. The first time I was on Prozac, the second time on Zoloft. Both times I woke up in the emergency room after having a seizure. I don't have a seizure disorder. "
