Sleep Apnea and white blood cell count questions

Hi, I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndromes among other things. The Dr. wants me to go get a sleep study and I keep putting it off. I don't know why. I'm afraid they are not going to see anything on that day even though I have a few sleep disorders it doesn't happen every night and knowing my luck nothing will happen when I go over there. I don't think I will be able to get to sleep either. I have a hard enough time with it but being somewhere else Im afraid I wont fall asleep and that misses the point. As far as sleep apnea I don't think I have this every night. At least it doesn't wake me up. Is that possible. I know I have it though because every now and again I will wake up gasping or not breathing over and over again in one single night. Its miserable! Every time I start to fall a sleep I wake right up not breathing.
Also, I have a question about fevers. I have never had fevers before. Then about 8 months ago now I have a fever usually around 99 every day and with the slightest exertion (like taking a shower even in cold water)can spike up to 101 or more. My normal temp is usually around 96 or 97. Its really low. Do you guys think this is normal? I had blood tests done awhile ago and it showed a high white blood cell count but they cant find an infection in me anywhere and it doesnt go away with antibiotics. If it does it will only be gone for a few days. Sometimes my blood test will show it elevated and then turn around and be normal. It will go back and forth like that. That has been happening now for a year and a half. I ended up in an ambulance one night for severe stomach pain and stayed in the hospital for a couple of days. They did all kinds of tests but other than a high white blood cell count they couldnt find anything. Does any one know whats going on with me? Has anyone had this happen to them? Thanks for any advise. Thank you, Ellen Posted on 10/23/09, 02:10 pm |

I don't know about the white blood cell count but I can tell you about the sleep study. Emerging studies suggest that Fibromyalgia is made worse by lack of the deep sleep by patients. My rheumatologist wants me to get another sleep study to make sure I am still getting the right level of assistance from my CPAP. During my sleep study years ago I had difficulty falling asleep as well but eventually I fell asleep. The only way that affected me was that I had to return for a second night so that they could experiment with which level I needed to stop the sleep apnea. Ideally, they monitor you half the night, and put on the mask the other half. However, since I didn't fall asleep until 1 or 2 am, they weren't able to do it on all one night. It is pretty much like sleeping in a hotel room with a few wires connected to your head and chest. The only part I hated was trying to get the glue they use on your head to attach the wires out of my hair. That was truly a pain. But otherwise, it is pretty simple and can help your fibro pain, in theory.
