Pain Doctor Denied Me
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
Today I found out (going into week four from the time of referral from my primary) that I have been denied to be seen as a patient by the pain management doctor. The denial was actually made over a week ago! The reason: well she mumbled the name Stephens (the doctor who told me he could not treat my pain) so there is no such thing as patient privacy and confidentiality, and then she said he recommends UC Davis.
It would be helpful if I knew what kind of doctor many of you see to handle your pain.
Thank you,
Colleen

" You've got all that going on and you can barely get anything to treat your pain? That is so messed up.! I'm so sorry..That was a pretty shitty thing to do what that dr did. You should call the dr who talked to the other dr out on that. That was like walgreens giving out my prescription info to the ER dr. I'm sure what they did was legal, but I think it's wrong. I never signed anything stating they could obtain info about me from anyone. Trust me I would know if I did. HIPAA was designed to protect patients from situations like this. And yes PGELL was right HIPAA does SUCK! Well at least your PCP is stepping up to the plate and helping you for awhile. I hope you get the treatment you need. I went thru alot of different types of drs before I found my RA. It may take you some time but you'll find a dr to help you. : ) "

" Thanks so much for your support. Yes, I am surprised to learn that these papers they ask you to sign (HIPPA) which they tell you protects your privacy is crap. What a joke. I have found a new doctor and will talk to my primary tomorrow about a referral. I hope he is not connected to the other two. At least I get treated nicely by the pharmacy I have been going to for years. Will keep you posted. "

" kmiller said: "HIPAA was designed to protect patients from situations like this."

Actually, k, we are TOLD HIPPA is "to protect us" but all it does is make it easier for ANYONE from insurance companies to pharmacies to other doctors, to EMPLOYERS (yep) to the Goverment to get ANY damn piece of information on us they like. And, ALL pharmacies and doctors insist you sign the HIPPA (or they can refuse to treat you) so there is NO way to protect yourself.

Thank the Bush Administration. HE thought it was a "good idea" to be able to see everyone's medical record, to "help root out terrorists." REALLY? Terrorists, from medical charts? UG, if people actually realize what was DONE to us in the last 8 years, they might think a lot differently. HIPPA is worded, when handed to you, as "Protection" but if you READ IT, it is clear it is there to make your medical file as accessible to anybody as can be.

Makes me so pissed off. "

" When they asked me to sign such a form I crossed out a lot of stuff and put in my own wording. I was not going to let people peep into my files with no good reason. "

" Go to the web site

painreliefnetwork.org

and talk to people there too. It is helping a lot of patients and doctors who are being treated unfairly in our country right now.. heed my words go to the web site.. you will be just as pleased with them as you are with dailystrength... these are the only sites I go to for support..... both trustworthy as heck and you will learn a lot... also on dailystrength there is a group called,

"Your Own Best Advocate"

which was begun a while ago by us patients who have been thru the wringer with docs and unnecessary protocol.

God Bless you and yours... I pray for your speedy relief from pain!!!

In Love, Light, Truth, & Service

" I have had this happen until my primary care physian refered me to a Pain Management doctor. Once I started seeing the PM Doc. getting my RX's written has not been a problem. I do however have to see the PM Doc every three months, have a urine analysis, sign a contract. This contract says I have to take what is prescribed, I can't sell them and finally I can once say I lost them get it re-subcribed. This has made it much easier
