Have any of you thought you had good friends until they found out you were taking pain medications and all of a sudden they are hinting about your meds and trying to play like they need them too. I hate it so much. I never give out my med's to anyone period! What do you say and how do say no with out really making them angry. These are people I knew for nearly 20 years.

r, a few more things.
1)It may be in your best interest to invest in a small safe for your meds. One of the things which made my doctor trust me even more is the fact that I have a safe for which ONLY I have the key. You can get them, they look like suitcases, at Target or other stores. Put them somewhere safe, and tell NO ONE what is in the safe. It looks like it would contain papers or something, so no one would think of trying to open it. 2) I would NEVER the name of my give my kind, patient, wonderful doctor to someone I didn't trust. HE doesn't deserve that. When people ask who I see, I usually say "He isn't taking patients right now." Which is true, he only sees a small number of migraine and pain patients, as his load is so high and people don't tend to leave him. 3) When people used to ask me for meds I didn't BOTHER to explain anything, Just said, "Sorry, it's illegal to share meds. I can't do that. If your pain is that bad, talk to your doctor." (NOT MINE.) The best policy is NOT to share too much information, for your own safety.

Ditto other posters. Do NOT tell people about your meds. Change the subject if they fish or act vague. Lock up your meds. For those who already know, tell them to see their own doc. If they are friends, they will drop it. Mums the word for your sanity and safety!

I spoke to my doctor regarding this same exact issueL she had me sign a sheet stating that it was illegal to let anyone have a nacotic pill that was not prescribed for them and listed the consquences for both sides. I always keep that in my purse and up by my meds--so if anyone asks, I Just say, I really can't--I have to sign this piece of paper whenever my doctor refills my prescription. Funny how those of us who have to have these meds to function know the value of them, while those who do not have know the value are only thinking of how they will give them a high.....(if they only knew what it was like to suffer)...

yes, I have had problems..I actually had a cousin still pain meds from me--pain meds that I NEED for PAIN which is what they are for--not for what he inteneded. It actually hurt my feelings more then anything that he would let me hurt so he could get his "high"--I have locked up my meds in a file cabinet--I have several close family members who can get to them and two friends. And that is in the case that if for some reason I can't get to them. I hate to recommend that, but lock them up and let them know that they are being dispensed or whatever--in order to help you make sure they are taking right. That is what I say.....

You have learned a hard lesson: keep your pain medication status TO YOURSELF. Don't discuss it and you won't get anyone hitting you up for anything. I'm sorry you have to go through this, but now you are older and wiser. My mom has no knowledge whatsoever of what I do and do not take anymore....I left her and her judgemental ways in the dust. Yeah, older and wiser for sure.

The only people that know what I am taking is my Mother, because she is very, very supportive and goes to every single PM appointment with me, and my Doctor, THAT IS IT!!!!
The rest are on a "need to know basis", and since they DON'T need to know, I DON'T tell them!!!

Yep!! One friend was even coming up for bible study at my house and she cuuses like a sailor. When she found out that I was not a pill supplier she never texts or calls anymore and she use to everyday.
i told her that i would go to her app. with her and see why her doc. didn't want to help her find out whats wrong. The day of the app. she calls and makes an excuse that it was raining and didn't want me to drive in the rain. She didn't want me seeing that she is doctor hopping for drugs!! It does eat me up because it is pople like them that make it hard for us to continue geting meds becasue doctors are getting gunshy at prescribing them for people like her.

I'm with PGell, I don't tell people my business. Oddly tho my inner circle are also CP ers. Ex Hairstylists it takes a toll on your body and ONE unfortunate incident or accident and poof its CP time. It is best to not let just anyone know because a lot of people just want them for recreational purposes. By keeping it on the DL you can avoid the circumstance. Hugs, Deb
