My mum is in severe chronic pain she is on morphine antidepressants and sleeping tablets as well as other med,s,well she was told about a painpump her pain doc told her he thought she would be alot better with one so he sent her along way to meet a surgeon who specialises in this pump mum went to see this surgeon who agreed she would indeed benefit from the pump,he stated that he would be willing to go ahead with the surgery but we had to find someone who would be local to do the refill,s,mum,s pain doc had said if i can be of any help then let me know, mum was so happy when she got home until he looked at her and told her sorry we don,t do them! but mum didn,t give in and wrote to so many doctors that in the end she wrote to the surgeon and he told mum that if she would be prepared to go and see him 4 to 5 times a year then he would go ahead and do the surgery, then last week a letter came for mum saying basically from her pain doc telling her he couldn,t help her anymore,he didn,t have the guts to tell her to her face he didn,t wanna help her,now thanks to him my mum is very ill in the high dependancy unit cuz she stopped all her meds i didn,t realise till i noticed her sweating and shaking at first i thought it was a bug or something, then i found her meds in the bin,mum had just stopped taking all her morphine ant depressants and sleepers,i called my nan who couldn,t get mum to take her meds even the family doc couldn,t help and because she refused to go back into hospital the hospital applied to the courts to get an order to keep mum in hospital for 72hrs to make sure she was taking her meds,in just under an hour the order will be finished and technaclly mum could refuse any treatment and walk out of the hospital,my nan has told the doc to keep her under and i have told them to speak to my nan about my mum,s care cuz i can,t take anymore of this,i can,t make a desision that mum might hate me for,is there anyone in the u.k that can help us cuz i really don,t want my mum to die.

I'm sorry, I'm in Canada not the UK. I don't know exactly what your mum was taking but I think that stopping most medications like narcotics & sleeping tablets cold-turkey is usually not fatal - it just makes you very very very ill.
Maybe this has all been resolved by now (since you posted 4 days ago). But I would say that if she insists on stopping everything all at once, she ought to be in the hospital. I hope that, instead, someone has taken pity on her and helped her gradually decrease her dose of everything over several weeks. You still get to be totally drug free in the end but it is so much easier and more comfortable. I've tried to stop narcotics cold-turkey before and it truly is torture. Nobody should have to go thru that! Good luck... Good luck...
