1st it back pain now my knees( I have mild scolosis in addition to other things))Dr switched me to fentanyl 12.5 patches. Now he says 2 every 3 days is ok. So why does it still hurt? Sometimes I can barely get up. Its definely affecting my mood.I used my breakthrough percoset up for 1 blissful pain free day. I really thought if I could break it it would;nt come back. I have tramadol but it doesnt do anything.I dont want to keep bugging her but is this normal? I was so afraid of the fentanyl but it barely works.

Sometimes the patch works for some people and others it doesnt.
Dont gve up ! Let the doctor know what is going on, it's your body and your pain, so dont give up hope yet. Their are alot of medicines out their and finding the ones that work for you takes time and patient. It took me 13 years to find the combo that works well for me. Dont be afarid to talk to her.

If you have a good one she would want you to call her causeshe wants the treatment to work for you as well. I hope you can find that right combo for you very soon. good luck and feel better soon

I feel for your situation. I'm trying to find the right combo of meds too. I got my hopes up when I was prescribed the Oxycontin and then when I took it and nothing changed with my pain levels I was very disappointed. It's so frustrating to not have medication that helps. I have to wait until my follow up appt with my PM to tell him all this. I'm to afraid to call his office and tell him the meds are not working in fear he'll think I'm drug seeking. I guess I'll have to get over it at some point. Hang in there. It'll get better soon.

You are obviously been under-medicated. The patches and the Percocet and Tramadol are not working for you. Is time to talk to your Doc and ask him for something better, something different, something that will work.
If he is a PM Doc, he should know that not every patient responds to the same medications. We are not cookie cutters! I was on Fentanyl patch, 100 Mg's and Oxycodone for BT pain, that worked for a bit, but then not anymore, what did my PM Doc do? He switched me to Methadone 10 Mg's 3 times a day and Dilaudid 4 Mg's for BT pain, well guess what????? That is working! Is time for you to get something that works, is time to talk to the Doc.

I agree with everyone here. Talk to your doctor. Tell her what you did out of exasperation for your "pain free" day (as long as it wasn't taking much more than you were supposed to take). That could give her a clue as to what you need. They made need to raise the Fentanyl. I was 200mcg every 2 1/2 days (some don't last the full 3 days on some people). Eventually methadone was the trick for me too. Tell her you're not trying to be a pest but you can't live like this. Learn to be your own advocate.

If you don't think telling your doctor what you did for the breakthrough pain is a wise move, then "suggest" it. For instance, "Might we try ___ and ____ for breakthrough pain?"
. . . "because percocet seems to be very effective on my pain." It might be something you've done but you don't necessarily have to give them that exact information. Use wisdom and caution, a doctor is never your friend, even though we have to rely on them.
