I have been waiting to see my PC DR but keep having painful muscle spasms from my head / face, neck, hands/ fingers all the way to my toes. I also get numbness and my hand feels so painful just driving or picking up a tshirt. Its getting hard to hide/ ignore. I have sharp lower back pain often too.

" Your only choice if you cant wait to see your dr. is to go to the emergency room. They can give you something to manage the pain until you see the doctor and if your doctor knows the pain was bad enough to send you to the ER, he might give you an appointment sooner. "

" Are these symptoms you describe new or ongoing(?) From just my own experience, my pain doctor doesn't want to deal with making any kind of diagnosis, but simply wants to address the subjective pain symptoms themselves. For instance, my PC doc refuses to look at my foot x-rays which show horribly distorted joints. I don't know if all pain docs are like that. It's sort of odd, really.

So, perhaps seeking out a neurologist in addition might be helpful, in case there is a diagnosis that can guide the docs to a more appropriate treatment for you. It will also show you are looking for other avenues besides just muting the pain. I hope this is helpful, but am not sure of your question. :)

Pam

Don't forget to specifically ask for something to treat the spasms as well, like perhaps muscle relaxer. "
