I have had tremendous problems with doctors. My last doctor prescribed me a lot of medication including a VERY high dose of methadone and then because of a miscommunication, she dumped me. I was so scared of going throught methadone withdrawal ( I ran out of my meds one time and couldn't get in touch with my doctor for a refill) it was horrific. So I went straight to a methadone clinic. Long story short, it helps but I still have a lot of pain at night. I saw a pain doctor and was honest with him. He did not treat me because of this. Here is my question: I obtained my medical records and I have to take them to a new pain doctor I'm seeing this week. I'm not going to lie to him but I'm just not going to say anything about the methadone clinic. If he treats me then I will stop going to the clinic. (I hate going there everyday!) Anyway, I looked at the records and the miscommunication that happened was written in the records and it made me look bad. It was only on one page. I'm thinking of removing that page. I need a new pain doctor and I can't risk him not treating me. I am so scared. Is it illegal if I remove the page that makes me look bad? If it is I won't do it. Somebody please let me know. Even if you THINK you know the answer I want to hear what you have to say. Thank you very much.

They are your medical records do what you want. I will warn you that it is illegal (at least in some states) to obtain prescription pain medication from more than one doctor within a 30 day period (its called Doctor Shopping). Beware of this, you need to be honest with a doctor and they should treat you fairly. If that one piece was to get removed...how would they know? How could they "prove" that your file was accurrately copied and contained that info when they gave it to you...Just a thought...

This doctor didn't even read my medical records except for my MRI and other tests I had done. He knows what jerks alot of doctors can be. He is the head of the pain management foundation. He also knows all about the clinic too.

Register with the pain relief network (google it) and ask them for a list of pain doctors in your area.

Hi Kitties2,
My advice would be: The only way to be heard by these doctors is to tell them ONLY what is applicable to your health. You having a miscommunication with another provider is NOT helpful for him in determaining your treatment plan. It seems to me that this would only create a bad first impression and should have nothing to do with the reason you are there. All that garbage in your medical record is just "clinic drama" and should be kept between you and that particular clinic. Furthermore, unless you were forging prescriptions, stealing from the clinic, ect ect, the new PM doctor would more then likely NOT be interested in that portion of your medical record. At least a good doctor wouldn't hold that against you. He or she should only be interested in your diagnosis, alternative treatments you've tried and what was, is or could possibly work for you medication wise. Just walk in there with a fresh attitude positive thought and let the doctor make suggestions on a treatment plan. If you don't agree with the treatment plan then voice your opinion and let him or her know what does work for you. I agree with gapch65 in saying don't ask for the meds. Tell him/her whats been working for you, why it's worked, how its improved your function and let him/her think about that. The only thing you need to say to this doctor is your symptoms, your level of pain on a day to day basis, and what your currenly doing to treat yur pain. Leave it at that. Don't bad mouth any of the previous doctors or clinics try to say positive things whether its a lie or not. This will show this doc your capable of keeping a good standing relationship with other providers. Be patient and calm you will get what you need eventually. I hope this help you. Keep us updated on the appointment. Best regards
