" I have taken amiltriptyline didn't like the sound of taking an antidepressant so spoke to the pharmasist about it and he explained although its in the group of antidrepressants (i know I haven't spelt that right)it is a mild sedative and not addictive. I found it helped with the muscle aches and worked well for a while. When I felt better I stopped taking it but have recently considered trying again. I found it didn't have any side affects so was good "

" I tried it and it was okay. It made me less anxious and I had pulled a muscle in my neck that caused me to have massive headaches on the right side. It happened twice and the last time it lasted for five months. It helped with the headaches. But I found out in the forth month that I had a nickel biopsy clip on the right side same as the pulled muscle and headaches that was causing inflamation on that side. When I tried to exercise I pulled the muscle. After the clip/marker was removed the pulled muscle went away. I hope you continue to look for the causes of your ME as there maybe something you can do about it. "

" Not only is it an antidepressant,it helps kill FM pain couldn't cope without it and helps you sleep too. Been on it for over 10
years. Only antidepressant that worked to snap me out of depression and silenced the suicide thoughts. Amen. Worked like a charm as nothing else I tried worked it was miraculous!!!! "

" Hi I take 10mg of Amitriptyline about an hour before I go to bed. It definitely helps me get a better night's rest. It's a very low dose (10mg). I was reluctant to start taking it but glad I did. "

" I have been taking it for 3 years, dosage 25-75mg before bed and it does seem to help a little with the pain but found no benefit for the sleep. I also finds it gives me some very weird dreams but I get that with the ME anyway. "

" I have taken Amitriptyline for 12 years. Before it I had tried others and they did not suit me. Amitriptyline has the most sedative effect of all the anti depressants, and that is why I take it, to help me sleep. I think it may be addictive but not at such a low dose you take. Yes I find it very helpful. "

" When I was originally diagnosed with FM it was suggested that I go on 10mg of amytriptyline, and I refused to. I have been on antidepressants before and didn't want to go back there. After a few months of basically no sleep I was desperate and decided to give it a go. I felt better knowing that it only works as an antidepressant at 50mg+. I have not looked back from then. I take 10mg every night and my sleep has improved greatly. I have tried to come off it again a couple of times in the last 6 years, but I really need it. I don't get side affects from this low dose either. I would recommend giving it a go. "

" I have also taken Amnitriptyline for about 4 years now! I flushed the first perscription down the toilet because I thought I didn't need it!!! hahaha!!! When I went back to the doctor he explained that it was a sedative at a low dose and that it is one of the best for stopping CF pain and would help me sleep! I am feeling so much better now! but start slow!!! I still only take 10mg every other night! Some people are more sensative to drugs! Hope you feel better! Try to get some sunshine! "
