Does anyone else get to the point where you just do not want to go to the doctor anymore? You know there's no cure and the side effects of medicines just make me feel worse...so I just want to give up and quit going.

Does anyone else get extremely emotional and frustrated...taht's a stupid question..I think we all do, when doctors and other people do not understand, so forget that question.

I just can't take this anymore!

My friend who has fibro and CFS who I've known from high school... She was suffereing like me, back in 2000.. It has taken her from 2000 to 2008 to get back into the workforce full time and feel like she functions at 95% with occassional setbacks..but this is not holding her back anymore. I asked her what she did and she said what helped her was when she STOPPED going to the doctors and stopped all prescriptions. She went to the healthfood/vitamin store and started on some vitamins.
She does not claim to be cured by any means. SHe still has to take a lot of naps and anytime it rains she gets a migraine and vomits. She misses work about once a month..which her company is very good to her about.. so far.. she's only had the job since January.
She gained 90 pounds from all the medications she had to take and has had a hard time losing it.

..I"m rambling... just thought I would share ...

" i know that i tried that a couple of years ago, but i almost died coming off of the pain meds. there was a time that i went only to the chiropractot-which is not covered by my insurance and i had to go at least everyday-sometimes 2-3 x,x a day-which he did not charge me for. when i didb;t go my pain was so horrific that it was insane. good luck to your friejd but i seriously wouldn't recommend going offf any narcotics without a dr's supervision,. because it could kill you. be careful-grace "

" Fibro fog... I didn't mean to title this as Darvocet.

Back in 1990 I was in a car accident and I was put on darvocet. You may wanta talk to your doctor and change meds find something else. When I took Darvocet it wasnt a high dose but at that time it didnt affect my moods. If you feel it is the cause of you being emotional and suicidal then get off it and find something that makes you feel good - not bad.

I would definitely encourage you to seek counseling if you feel so down that you are having suicidal thoughts. I also would take a look at all my meds and through the process of elimination see if it could be either a combination of meds causing this, or try to resolve this.

Are you on any anti-depressants? Those will help you with your emotional struggles. Do you have a doctor for CFS that works with you on your treatment plan? Just asking cause you seem frustrated with docs. I know there is no cure but there is relief and help out there for you and you have a right to feel frustrated. I feel for you.

I am a firm believer that the less meds I take or that I am on is the best way to deal with this for me. But we all have our own rights to do what we think is best for our own condition. I do take Elavil and Phentermene 37.5 mg and thats it unless I have a migriane and I take a migraine med.

The thing about meds is that with CFS we are already slow, weak, tired mentally and physically and if we take some meds they are going to make this worse. Like anti-anxiety meds calm your central nervouse system down - lots of meds cause drowsiness so i avoid them so I can be more alert.

I honestly have a great deal of pain from my fibro and CFS but I dont take anything for pain at all. Pain meds knock me out, make me feel lethargic, and make my tired fatiqued state worse to the point that I just wanta sleep all the time. So I just tolerate the pain - listen to my body - and use lots of supplements.

This might sound crazy but I will tell you how I deal with my pain....I block it out of my mind...when I feel it and my brain sends signals I just blow it off - I try to keep somewhat busy and moving and focus on other things and it works for me.

I have learned to live with pain and even though some things are a struggle and I grunt and moan subconsciouly I just keep going. I am not going to let this illness keep me from accomplishing things...it may slow me down...I may have to put ice packs on my hips, neck and head and take a nap but I fight it with all I have inside of me. If I didnt I would honestly stay in bed all day long or sleep. I cant live that way and I feel that this pain is going to be around for along time so I mise well get used to it, fight it and believe that I can find the strength to do whatever I try hard enough to do.

My neurologist ordered a hip xray in Nov. he wrote a prescription for pain because I have fib and RA in that joint bad, I handed it back to him and said no thanks...I will deal with it....and he said ok but I dont see how. I just do - it is the thorn in my flesh that I block out as much as i can.

I just wrote all this to help you cause you asked about meds, and how people felt and this is the case for me although I believe you and others should do what is good for you and your health. I truely feel for you and hope that you can get a doc to get your meds right and feel better. You are so young and life is so short and I hate that you are suffering. "

" I'm another who does not take pain meds. I DO take a sleep med that allows for quasi sleep and I AM on an antidepressant (which I hope to eventually wean off.) I hate to tell you how many supplements I take.

I feel MUCH better since I have found two doctors who will co-treat me and a therapist I'd trust with my life. It's hard to put together a "team" but they're worth their weight in gold. I'm hoping you find yours soon. "
