" This phobia thing is BS. I've tried ever which way to avoid having PES after I exercise which is daily 30 minutes and I have never been deconditiioned. I do Yoga every day and walk . However I push through the PEM stupidly so I won't get deconditioned and then when I get intense PEM I have to reduce the amount of exercise and skip it for days or a week or more. When I feel better I start exercising and then teh whole cycle repeats itself but I am grateful and enjoy the days I walk. I do Yoga regardless of how I feel. Any person who is leery of exercise is so for a good reason they DO GET symptoms and this is fear of exercise is mentioned by MDS because the medical community has to blame the patient because the medical community has no idea what to do and when that happens makes everything psychological. I am learning to accept I have to modify my exercise plan and I can continue to exercise. But it angers me that doctors bring in phobia and deconditoning. "

" Have they suggested antidepressants yet for PEM.? They suggest it for everything else under the sun. I do know cutting down on carbs as well as consistent good night sleep helps reduce the length of PEM for me sometimes but often I just have to wait it out.by complete resting. "

" I didn't see where it says that it's a phobia thing in Ali5tair's link. It seemed to be about what it was like for cfs patients and pacing. I didn't click on the links within his link though.

I do agree that post exertional malaise has nothing to do with a phobia. It really happens to us.

I like to explain it to people as getting way too worn out for way too long for doing ordinary things. Then I give examples I have experienced. "
