Advice:
Did anyone have to get a note from doc not to work

Well I haven't worked in 5 mths. I have been living on my child support check and a little help from my partner if I need it. So I did file for food stamps and was accepted. It helps so much because it means that my small amount of child support pays the bills and we can survive. Yesterday I went to my county hospital and applied for Indigent care so that I could get my repeat MRI done, and any future lab or test done. The lady helping me with my application asked why I was not working and if I had been to the work force commision to get assistance with finding a job? My initial thought was to say,,,Really? Do you think I WANT to stay home and live on welfare? Hello! But I didn't and I told her I could not work right now. So she told me I have to get a medical note telling me I am unable to work. Has anyone else had to get a doctor note saying they can't work? And if so,,,what is it suppose to say? I will be seeing him in 3 weeks. Are there any other people having to use the system to get by or is it just me? Thanks for any suggestions.

" I just want you to know that I actually applaud you for taking the help from your state. We all pay it in and it should be there for when we need it. It just burns me when those who do not need it get it before people like us. Please do not be ashamed about it.
My sister is in the same boat in another state that would definately help her out but her husband will not let her apply. She is to sick to work and she does not qualify for disability. I told her that if I were her I would apply anyway. If you need help for a short time there is nothing wrong with that.
My neice on the other hand who has 3 children and just had their 4th getting, I have aproblem with because she is healthy and can go out and get a job and hasn't worked no more than 3 months in her 25 year old life.
I was always told "don't look a gift horse in the mouth:)'
Hope everything works out for you. "

" Your doctor should know you can't work, so just tell him what youtold us on here.. that the lady at the hospital said she needed a note that you couldn't work so you could get the indigent care so you can get your repeat MRI done.

..HOPEFULLY, your doctor is a good one! "

" I had to keep getting letters from my doctor stating I could not work. Unfortunately, I became permanently (there's always hope, so I hate to use that term) disabled.

My company finally cut me loose after about three years, meaning, they took away my right to participate in their health insurance plan.

Your doc should be able to help you. Try to do it by phone, have them mail you a letter, so you don't have to go for an office visit, and pay a co-pay, which you can hardly afford at this difficult time.

Good luck, and feel better! "

" We all do what we can to survive. No need to explain.

Yes, I've had to get the damn note every 6 mo for 2 yrs for my LTD carrier. It's a pain to ask, but very necessary. The LTD insurance carrier provided a form that the doctor just had to sign off on and that was pretty easy. But I actually have written and asked my doctor(s) to sign notes for me saying I'm completely disabled.

I have used them to get my SSD, I'm using them to get disabled license plates, reduced rates on utilities, all kinds of things. "
