About 2 days since having my GB removed, I developed quite severe diarrhea. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you deal with it? I'll see my doctor, but not until next week, since he's out of town. Did you have to eat particular foods? I thought all of my stomach problems would be over the minute the GB was gone.

I am sorry to tell you that you seem like you will be one of a major percentage of people who have severe diarrhea after gallbladder removal. I was not aware of this either until after I had mine out then started to do research and found this out. It turns out that because our liver now has no gallbladder to store bile in and regulate it, when we eat it dumps bile right into our small intestine and this causes the diarrhea. So forget all the stories you have heard about the body really not needing the gallbladder it's a bunch of bull. You will need to find a way now to help keep the bile under control. If you continue with this problem believe me your life will be miserable. Ask you doctor for a prescription for what is called Cholestid. It comes in powder form which is cheaper or pill form. It is actually a cholesterol lowering medication so It also helps you in other ways. What it does is bind the bile so you don't have the diarrhea. You take it daily and you can regulate how much to take. Somedays I only take One pill a day others I need two pills a day about an hour before a meal. The only problem with this medication is that it binds to other medications so you must not take it with or medications and they suggest taking it at least and hour before or four hours after taking any other meds. As with any medication your doctor can help you figure out what is best for you. Feel free to email me anytime and Good Luck!

I have to say, it sounds like you guys are having a terrible time with it. Though I haven't had mine out yet, every woman on my mother's side of the family (including my mother) has, both surgeries, intrusive and unintrusive, and no one has had this problem. The worst my family has experiences it not being able to digest certain foods very well, such as eggs, and having to take antacids once in awhile. Good luck with your issues on this one.
