My parents seperated when my mom was pregnant with me. My mom gave my father access to me freely, not wanting their issues to affect our relationship. He, however, had remarried, divorced, and left the state to be where his third wife's family lived. They had a daughter, my sister Haley. He soon divorced and later married my stepmom and they had my two sisters, Jennifer and Kristin. I spent time during the summer with my father almost every year until I was 17. He made some horrible choices that forced me to cut ties to him and the rest of the family. We didn't talk for 7 years. I reconciled for the sake of my sisters. He had minimal contact for the next year or so. Reappeared for my sisters wedding, and I've not really heard from him since, that was eight years ago. I feel I am better off without him, but I don't understand how he can go through life like I don't exist. It's his loss that he won't have the opportunity to see what a beautiful, loving, daughter he has! Thank God for my mother who raised me to be the woman I am today!

" i hear you! my father is the same way. he acts like all five of his kids don't exist because he hates my mom and what she put him through (10 years of married hell) and lost contact with us when we were very young but doesn't take any steps toward reconciling and we (all five kids, as adults) live within about a five mile radius of him. we are all good productive members of society. two out of five graduated from college and 2 more are in process of getting education beyond high school and two of the five have already done four years in the military. my baby sis went to iraq for a year and so u get the point. we are good people but there's nothing we can do about a deadbeat dad.

i can't understand how someone could keep people at such a distance, but u r right- its his loss! u have to go on with ur life for urself and the people around u.

i think we have our parents for a reason- they are supposed to teach us something- sometimes-its probably how NOT to behave in our own lives.

hope u r having a great day! "
