Having cisplatin, i have found that none of the antiemetic meds used have stopped me from vomiting (ondansetron, cyclyzine, nozinan...). Has anyone got anything that has worked for them?

I had terrible nausea the entire time and was in the hospital due to dehydration after my first treatment. They had me on phenergen which did not help at all! They switched me to reglan while I was in the hospital and I took that the whole time, and it really helped.

Thankyou very much, I've not heard of reglan. How long did you have it for? (ie just the day of the chemo, or for 1, 2, 3 etc days afterwards? I've read some more about it & will talk to my consultant about it.
I've also needed to be rehydrated - 4 times now & its so difficult to think about facing it again.... so I'm probably willing to try anything!

One of my on-line friends here in DS is having cisplatin. She said drinking lots of fluids, especially water, has helped to keep her nausea at bay.

I suffered with dreadful nausea when on carboplatin. As with you, medication didn't seem to do anything. Maybe it would have been worse without it...
I researched natural remedies and my next door neighbor at the time was, Jane Sen, the chef at the Bristol Cancer Help Center, here in England. They specialize in complementary therapies and diets for people with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. I changed/improved my diet quite radically. Eating simple, nutritious food, little and often. Highly recommended for nausea were: Lots of ginger, biscuits, tea any way you can; Pineapple, which contains enzymes that help break up the food and ease digestion; Slippery Elm, as a powder to sprinkle over food or as a tablet before food. It lines and protects the stomach lining which suffers due to the chemo. I can't say I ever manageded to stop it altogether, but it only lasted for a few days at a time and trying different things helped me to get through it.. Best of luck and hope you find something that works for you xxx

Hi -
I work on the pr team for LifeMel Honey. LifeMel is the only honey that has had a clinical test done to determine effectiveness. It can help restore some of your energy. It doesn't work for everyone, but many people have seen drastic results (i've spoken with many people who have been helped by LifeMel Honey). It is certainly no cure for cancer - it simply can make the side-effects of chemotherapy less severe. If you're interested please check out their web site at www.LifeMelUSA.com Thanks and feel better. S

Sarahb47 has done no more than to promote her product here... a fly by night.. I think.. I'm back on carbo/taxol after 6 years and the nausea is back with a vengence.. I suffered a 'moderate allergic reaction' after the second dose as my body has a strong response to it and I believe that this is why my nausea is worse that most.. I'm taking ondansetron and cyclyzine at the moment and have felt nauseous since having the chemo yesterday.. The doctor woudl like me to have more steroids to ease this discomfort but I am reluctant to take more than I already am.. so am struggling on.. I'm hoping it will ease off in a couple of days like it did the last time... only eating what I want helps.. today I have managed porridge, some triffle and spaghetti with pesto.. lots of fruit teas and water xxxxxx

I am in the process of doing a workshop for helping loved ones cope with cancer and I study natural medicines. Something that can help you is Shittake mushroom and they can be found at your grocery store. These help nausea and provides energy after chemo and radiation. Can be chopped up and mixed into food. Another thing that can help is drinking carrot juice and eating grapes. Hope this is helpful and you feel better.

While Cisplatin is one of the best & popular chemotherapy drugs out there, the most common side effects that come right soon after the chemotherapy drug is injected through your veins is Nausea. So therefore if you feel nausea or feeling of vomit after cisplatin has been injected in to your veins, it is a common side effect and you should not worry greatly. Here is some more information about cisplatin side effects
* Most people do not experience all of the Cisplatin side effects listed. * Cisplatin side effects are often predictable in terms of their onset and duration. * Cisplatin side effects are almost always reversible and will go away after treatment is complete. * There are many options to help minimize or prevent Cisplatin side effects. Source: http://www.researchmalignantmesoth... * There is no relationship between the presence or severity of Cisplatin side effects and the effectiveness of Cisplatin. * The Cisplatin side effects and their severity depend on how much Cisplatin is given. In other words, high doses may produce more severe side effects.
