hi everyone. I was just curious if anyone has experienced lower back pain. I have had severe back pain that comes and goes, but seems like it is here to stay right now. I was diagnosed with degenerative dic disease a few years ago, but I am wondering if it is CMT related. any suggestions or comments will be very much appriciated!

Well, none of us in my family with CMT have back pain related to the CMT. Some have back problems due to other issues.
Thats eight people in my extended family with cmt. But it could vary depending on type and severity.

I get lower back pain too. But my doctor says that CMT should not be the cause but I do not know.

Howdy. I have CMT and "flat tires" as my orthopedic dr. said; ie, degenerative disc disease. And plenty of low back pain. Not sure what causes what, though.

Well I have had back pain lower upper and even under sholder blades as well and even neck pain too on the 17 of august they are operating on me and going to replace three virdibra's in my neck. they say if they don't do this I could turn my neck one day and paralize me from the neck down so I am between a rock and a hard spot . as for the back pains it may be that those of us with this may have jobs that require the total use of your body and not just certain parts of your body. that may be why we hurt like that ?

i have had CMT since i was 22 and i am 54 now but never really had lower back pain..some soreness in my buttocks because those muscles make up for the ones that are weak in my calves...i think my neurologist would say that if my back hurt it would not be because of my CMT>

I have lower back pain in the morning (worse during cold, damp weather), but I think it's because I haven't moved in 8 hours. I have a slight curvature in my spine, but I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. Exercise, especially pilates, has been helpful for that. Not focusing on it also helps me deal with it.

Hmmm...that's interesting, Kyna. The curvature in my spine was found when I had an abdominal CT scan. I was having severe low back pain that's consistent with the kidney disease in my family, and (of course) the CT scan ruled that out.
