" The most common type of anesthesia used for LEEP Procedure today is a twilight sedation or intravenous sedation. That means the anesthesia medicines are given into the I.V. to make the patient very drowsy. "

" I was wide awake during mine, but I was given injections that raised my adrenaline while they did the procedure. I did feel some of what they were doing as my tolerance for any kind of pain medications/shots is very high, but it was nothing compared to what I would have felt if they hadn't given me something.
By the time I was done though I spent about ten minutes shaking (from the extra adrenaline rush) before my body calmed back down to normal. This is why my doctor insisted that his patients have someone to drive for them after the procedure though.

I hope this helps. I wonder if perhaps putting you to sleep is just the way your doctor does things in his office? Even if they haven't said so, you are always encouraged to ask questions of them. So if you would like to know why they plan on putting you to sleep I would definitely call the doctor's office and just tell them you have questions you need answers to before your procedure on the 22nd.

Good luck and many positive thoughts,
ladyalpha "

" I've had both....asleep and awake.. It all depends on the doctor and their perspective on the procedure. I'd much rather be asleep if I could be. "
