New Member Send a PM Give a Hug hi , i am asking for some opinions for my wife who has cervical cancer. we found out 2 weeks ago and all we have to do is make our choice. with out going into all the details i could tell you we are at the point of deciding.. some info....all 3 sources say curable,100%... all tests show no spreading of 3 mm area at front of cervex...all test are done,exams p e t scan m r i .... our options are surgery for radical hyst...OR....radiation and chemo...... its our choice,they say both ways are going to be just as effective....so my wife seems to already choose rad. and chemo...i just don;t want her jumping to fast on one choice or the other... but it does seem the EASIER way with rad and chemo when they tell you no hair lose, very little problems........... but with surgery,it looks more painfull,3 days in hospital and many weeks of recovery... my wife is a strong 58 year old... NO ONE WOULD PICK THE SURGERY,IT SOUNDS MUCH HARDER,ALL END RESULTS BEING THE SAME.... I WAS ACTIVE ON THE INGUINAL HERNIA SUPPORT GROUP ,I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE HERE A YEAR LATER... IF THERE ARE SOME OPINIONS I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THEM ,,,THANK YOU....THE HOSPITALS WERE SOME OF THE BEST WHERE I LIVE IN NYC...SLOAN-KETTERING, NORTH-SHORE.LIJ, AND MANHASSETT LIJ.....PHIL Posted on 09/02/09, 01:09 pm |

Thank you for the update. I come on here looking to see if she is doing ok. Sounds like she had a rough bump in the road with the fever and infection. But I am hoping she is home resting now. If she has to do the chemo/rads, it is doable. They have great meds for the side effects now days and they work well. It is a cumalitive effect so about 2 weeks out she may start to feel the exhaustion, tell her to sleep sleep sleep! Plenty of rest and the treatments will be over before you know.I heard that so many times, but it is true!

thanks for being out there and watching my posts...so heres the latest...day 7, still in the hospital but she had the best night so far..fever is done with,its staying at 98-99.....bbuuutttt,yesterday the latest was her kidneys were working to slow. but ,the docs say once again,no need to worry.ITS NORMAL( i"m getting tired of hearing that)...they say its from drinking the CONTRAST(fluid for the C A T scan)THE KIDNEYS SHOULD START WORKING BETTER BY TODAY!!!...........I AGREE WITH THE DOCS,THERE HAVE BEEN NO MAJOR PROBLEMS, BUT EVERY LITTLE THING THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN TO SOMEONE HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE.... WELL LEST SEE IF SHE CAN GET HOME BY TONIGHT..but as the day goes on it looks like that window will close.............phil

WELL IN THE MORNING WE FOUND OUT WHY SHE WAS SO JUMPY..SHE BUSTED OUT IN A RASH ALL OVER HER BODY. WHEN SHE WOKE UP SHE LOOKED LIKE A STRAWBERRY!!!!.we didn't panic because the hospital was sending a nurse to check on her after she was released. the nurse came about 2 pm yesterday and we all agreed the reaction was from her sulpher allergic reaction that caused her fever after the first few days.. she said take BENEYDRYL for the itching and put a cream on her skin also....by evening it was still itchy but looked like it was spreading out and running its course...hopefully by today it will ease.....

New Member Send a PM Give a Hug good news from her doctor.all the lymph nodes that were removed came back negative.. he called us to let us know right away so we didn't have to wait for her visit this upcomming week....I KNOW ITS GREAT NEWS BUT WE JUST DON;T FEEL LIKE JUMPING UP AND DOWN AND HAVE A PARTY...IT'S KIND OF LOW KEY SO THE CANCER DOESN'T HEAR US CELEBRATING... the doc did throw some numbers at us to continue the fight..he said we will still discuss chemo and radiation therapy to keep the % in our favor... i'm sure it;s differnt in everyones case ,but for my wife he said since the nodes were negitive he said there is still a 15 % chance of comming back... he said this is great odds but still with a little (LITTLE) bit of chemo and radiation we could knock those odds down even more....WHY NOT,,,NO SENSE IN PUTTING OUR GUARDS DOWN NOW....THE DOC SAID HE DOSN;T WANT ONE CELL GETTING AWAY..WE WILL DISCUSS THIS MORE IN A WEEK OR SO......PHIL

WELL,SO FAR A MONTH LATER AND MY WIFE IS RUNNING AROUND PRETTY GOOD.THERE WAS ONE MORE REACTION TO THE SULPHER DRUGS THEY GAVE HER AND IT CAME OUT IN HER EYES.. WE HAD TO GO TO THE EYE DOC TWICE FOR DROPS,THEY WERE RED,BLURRY AND LIGHT SENSITIVE...THEY CLEARED UP NOW AND SHE IS MUCH BETTER.. I HAVE BEEN ASKING HER ABOUT THE CHEMO OR RADIATION AND SHE KIND OF IS STALLING SAYING,(I HAVE TO HEAL MORE)...I GUESS ITS ME BUT I THOUGHT THE NEXT STEP WOULD BE DISCUSSED BY NOW...I WILL SEE IF I COULD SNEAK A CALL TO THE DOC IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS.....
