Colposcopy...

Hello...

I got my results from a follow up smear test today and they have referred me for a colposcopy. I have to ring up and make an appointment tomorrow so I have no idea what the future holds for me as yet and am probably (or more to the point hopefully) jumping the gun. Doesn't stop me from being absolutely petrified though! I guess I'm just looking for a bit of support right now. Being away from home doesn't help (I go home next week) and also being in a new relationship (six weeks!!) is a bit nerve wracking to say the least, but I'm fairly confident he'll be OK with it all...

" I'm definitely coming back as a man next time!!

Sorry to hear you've got changes again...I've not had them before so was in complete panic mode. The people at the hospital seemed to know what they are talking about, so I've calmed down a lot!! "

" Hang in there. You're much braver than I am. I don't understand...I have had 2 colpos done with 3 biopsies each..and they all came back fine. But my paps keep coming back abnormal over 3 years now. I have cancelled my 3rd colpo because I had intercourse and they refused to do the colpo. Do you think intercourse (sperm) effects the cells resulting in an abnormal pap? How about smoking?
Vodka..good luck on your colpo..I am too scared to even re-schedule my appt. "

" Hi -I hope everything is ok -I know this is scary....

I was told after a pap smear at an appt when I was 8 weeks pregnant that after I had the baby I needed to get another pap smear immediately. If the results came back with the low grade dysplasia again, they would do a colposcopy.

Well, I had my pap smear and the results came back the same -low grade (this was well over a year ago). I cannot go through with the test...

Part of it is fearing that it may mess up a chance for me to get pregnant or carry a pregnancy through (I am 39) and the other is just the sheer anxiety I have over it (I have major anxiety issues).

I freaked out on my dr's office too as they left a long msg on my voicemail a year ago about me having low grade dysplasia...but said it isn't HPV. They said I signed something that allows them to leave msgs -but I freaked out on them (not the dr but the receptionist and office mgr) on the phone. Now I am too embarrassed to go back to this office (which is super convenient and I love the dr).

The other part of me feels a bit abandoned though. My dr knew I had post partum depression and put me on meds -you would think that the office mgr would have told her how upset I was...but no one has called to follow up with me to get the test done....

I know it is my responsibility but I'm not going to do it. I know I have a young son (he is 15 months) but I can't. I wish I could, but I can't.

UGH

PS I'm the BIGGEST baby with doctors....hate going and cannot deal with much "

" PLEASE...all of you...don't put off necessary testing. I am a survivor of metastatic cervical cancer and urge you to follow through with recommendations of your gynecologist. You cannot explain abnormal findings away or neglect your body because of fear. Cervical cancer is curable, but to neglect early warnings is playing Russian Roulette. "

" I am off for my appointment in a bit. Have been fine so far but am now starting to feel physically sick. I just want to know now what the problem is.

My boyfriend has been great. Can't believe I was worried about telling him. I had a few tears and a bit of a panic but I just showed him the letter and he was so understanding and reassuring. His support has really made a difference. So, if they're meant to be with you, they'll understand!!

Will let you know how I get on... "

" Yay! I'm back! And am very relieved! The doctor took a look and said that he couldn't see any abnormalities and told me that it could just be something that will right itself. So, I'm going back on 7th June next year. In the meantime, I can chill!! "
