Pregnant w/ Abnormal Pap Smear

Just recently, I went to my ob/gyn and she did all the tests that needed to be done. I'm 8 weeks along in my pregnancy and my ob/gyn called to tell me that my pap smear was abnormal. Now, I'm scared that it could be cancerous considering my past. When I was 7 years old, I had Hodgkins Disease (lymphatic cancer). I'm in remission now but what if I have cervical cancer now? I'm scared for my baby and for myself right now.
My aunt has already spoke to me about how she had an abnormal pap smear when she was pregnant with one of my cousins but it turned out to be nothing in the end. I got a chance to speak with my mom's ob/gyn and he said if I were his patient he would do a biopsy on me now, regardless of me being pregnant, considering my past with cancer. I don't know what to do. ): Posted on 06/26/09, 11:06 am |

First of all relax and do not get too anxious or worried because you don't want to add any stress to your situation. Wait and see what the results are. It could be nothing or it could be something. Understand that there are different results that can occur so be aware. I would go to the cancer society website to educate yourself and find some answers to questions that you may have. Talk with your OBGYN about your concerns. Your OBGYN should explain exactly what the abnormal results are and what steps are next, ex: biopsy, conizatio, leep...In the meantime my prayers are with you and remember that God is great!

I agree, don't stress out. The same exact thing happened to me. Mine did come out to be cancerous but I had a normal pregnancy and a healthy baby boy who is now 10. After I had him they did a partial hysterectomy and now all is well. Paps have been normal since.

I am trying not to stress about it, but if it is cancerous I do not want to lose my ability to have kids... this is going to be my first kid, and I definitely want more than one.
I'll just have to stay strong for the time being. Thank you both.
