ok, new here, was told I had HPV after my 2010 exam but normal pap.
had next yearly exam, heard nothing about so thought things were fine.
5 months later get a call from Dr. office to come in and go over test .
Ok, went in still HPV and now abnormal pap, retook pap about 3 to 4wks ago and still have not heard back, think I'll call today. Was told that if it did come back abnormal I would have to wait about 6 months for the next test (forgot the name of that one). I dont want to worry and thank God for my kids to keep me busy but there are times that it does come to mind and I break down. Husband is not much support right now, his thought, we dont know yet.
Ok thats were I'm at, question, is this wait normal?
Going to give the Dr. a call
Thanks

" It is my experience that pap results tale no longer than 2 weeks. I would not wait months or even 4 weeks for results. Thats very unprofessional and inconsiderate of your Dr. In my opinion when it comes to this or anything else for that matter...never assume that because you never heard back from the Dr that it means everything is ok. They should call u even if just to tell u everything came back normal. Reports get lost and patients don't get called . It's not right but it happens a lot. Whatever ends up happening make sure your 100% happy and confident with your drs. It will make a big difference. Good luck "

" I'm so sorry you are having to wait so long. The longest I waited was a month, you must be going out of your mind. Try not to worry too much. I agree with goodtotalk, you shouldn't have to wait for results past 2 weeks. Next time, don't wait, call them. As for the colposcopy, I was told a 3 week wait time for that one. I had one on Monday. The test itself isn't too bad. Just like a pap, depending on the your pain threshold, the biopsy can hurt, but not too bad. The after effects are cramps, no worse than period cramps. There can be some bleeding as well, not always. Depends on the extent of the biopsies. Good luck, and again, please try not to worry. Easy to say I know, but it sounds like you have been tested yearly, even if the results were slow coming. So you have done the most you can do, there is nothing else you can do now except wait. "
