Scheduled to have a Colposcopy

I am a 30 year old female. I have never had a abnormal pap smear until my doctor called me about a month ago. They scheduled for me to go in to get a colposcopy today but go figure I started my period so have to reschedule. I am very scared. My great grandma had cervical cancer, my mother had precancerous cells removed from her cervix and my sister had cervical cancer. My husband and I had tried at one point to get pregnant and after trying for 6 months decided maybe it wasnt time for us to get pregnant so I got back on the pill. We have been married 10 years and have been together 13 and half years. I am terrified that I have cervical cancer and will never have the chance of having a baby. That is my biggest concern. I am not afraid of having cancer- just the results that it may cause of me not being able to produce a child for my husband and I. Has anyone else ever been in a situation like this and if so how did you deal with it? Were you able to concieve if you did have cervical cancer? What else can be the cause of having a abnormal pap smear? Thanks in advance for any advise anyone has to offer.

Hi Tonnieg...with such a history of cervical cancer in your family,I would suggest you look up a possible connecting factor that is not mentioned much these days..it is a major cause of CC, and not related to HPV..the connecting factor is DES...look up the drug and see if your family may have been exposed to it..there is lots to learn...the drug companies don't want us to remember it...some of us won't let the drug companies forget...

I am going to have to look up this DES scandal. I never had HPV but ended up with Stage III invasive cervical cancer...and it has been blowing my mind how this has happened. I wasn't in a SINGLE high-risk group either and low and behold got it anyways. I'm that 1-2% that don't fall into the typical case. My doctors are even baffled. I'd appreciate any links that you know of that are good to look into this! Thanks!

Hi cher...look up the DESACTIONGroup...I talked to Fran Howell, who has been the leader for quite a while...they are the only really active group supporting this...there is lots to learn...I think you will find your answers there, and many questions answered...all of my CC problems were of unknown origin, too, until I discovered the link...You will most likely have to educate your doctor, as this issue has not been spoken of for many years...tell Fran Pam sent you...let me know what happens..thanks, Pam.
