Advice:
HPV cervical cancer

I am very concerned about hpv and cervical cancer. About 2 and a half years ago when I went for my regular check up during my second pregnancy I was tested for HPV. The doctor came back and told me that I tested positive for HPV. He did not go into further detail and made it seem as though it wasn't a huge concern. After my second child I was so scared about what I was already told that I did not go back to have things checked out again. Now I see all the HPV commercials on TV and its just a constant reminder that something could be wrong, but I am afraid to know if there is. To add to the situation I am also unemployed and don't have health insurance, so I don't even know who I can see. Please if anyone has any helpful information I would be very grateful.

" There are various city, state, and federal programs that provide screening to women without health insurance. Several options are available to you:

-You can contact the American Cancer Society for a list of
local resources in your area.

-Contact your local Planned Parenthood. They offer
gynecological services, including the HPV test, at rates
determined by your income level.

-Community or public health clinics may also offer the HPV
test at reduced or income- determined levels.

-Many hospitals or hospital clinics offer free or reduced-cost
services to patients without health insurance.

You can find more information here:

p.s. Don't let that 'over 30' in the web address put you off. I'm sure there are services for alll age groups. "

" I am in a similar situation. I found out I had HPV almost 8 years ago. My paps were never normal after that. After my third child was born my pap showed I had Dysplasia ( precancerous cells). I had a nervous breakdown and lost custody of my children and my insurance. I don't know what is going on in my body it's been four years now. I found out that is you go to the Health Department for you paps if anything wrong comes up they have the resources to help you get state funded insurance. "
