Advice:
Sever Cervical Dysplasia

My daughter was recently diagnosed with severe cervical dysplasia. Her biopsies from her colposcopy showed severe dysplasia in all of the samples. Her GYN is recommending a cone biopsy be done as soon as possible. She is only 24 and recently married. She wants to have children in the future as well. I'd like to hear from anyone who has been through this and may have any advice or information to offer. I'm worried sick for my daughter's health, and for her chances to become a mother in the future. Is cone biopsy the only option? I've heard it can affect her ability to become pregnant and to carry a pregnacy to full term.
Any responses would be most helpful and welcomed. Thank you.

" hi Karen, I had a cone biopsy at the age of 24 to remove the cancer that was on my cervix. I have had 1 successfull pregnancy since then. it is more difficult to conceive and to carry a pregnancy after this procedure, but it's not impossible. After the procedure when your daughter decides to try to conceive the gyn will be able to help her through it. they do what is called a cervical cerclage and stitch the cervix closed so to try to prevent it from failing mid pregnancy. It does work. I have a 5 year old daughter now. It's scarry and the thought of not being able to get or stay pregnant is a very real and extremly valid fear. dont let anyone tell you that your wrong for being scared!! but there are options. it is still possible for her to have children. Good luck to you and your daughter. I hope everything turns out well for you all! "

" Dear Angie,
Thank you for your reply. It helps to be able to talk with others that have been through this. We have a consultation with my daughter's doctor on the 15th, and her surgery is scheduled for the 23rd. From what I understand she will do the cone biopsy using the LEEP procedure. I do have alot of questions to ask before the surgery. I also heard that vitamins and green tea extract can be helpful. Have you had any experience with this? Thanks again for your reply, it helped alot. "

" Vitamins and green tea are helpfull for alot of things. It never hurts to take something like that i think. I don't personally have experience with it. Make sure you ask all the questions you need to to make yourselves feel better before surgery. I didn't have the greatest surgery experience. I went to the Mayo clinic in minnesota to have my procedure done and they were very cold and robotic about their jobs. I wasn't 100 percent sure of anything before i went into surgery and had a massive panic attack right before they put me under. Make sure your daughter is completly clear of what they are doing and comfortable with it as well is my biggest advice. How is your daughter doing? it's such a huge weight to carry when your so young and especially newly married. I do hope her husband is understanding. It may take some work to get pregnant and to have a healthy baby, but if they know this going into the whole thing maybe that will help prepare them. I really wish you all the best. I will say a little prayer for you all and please let me know how things go. If i can help any other way just let me know. GOOD LUCK!!! "

" Hi Angie, Thanks for your reply again. My daughter is doing well, we had our consult with her doctor this morning, and her surgery is scheduled for September 23. The doctor explained everything to us and even showed us a video to learn more about the procedure. My daughter and son-in-law are handling it all pretty well, and are both determined that they will have a healthy baby someday soon. It's good to be optimistic and have a positive attitude. I guess I'm just a little more nervous. Thanks again for all your help and support. It means alot! "

" Hi there
Ugh
DO you know if your daughters biopsys showed a CIN I, CIN 2 or CIN 3 lesion? You can call and ask.
Yes having a conization does put her at a slight increased risk of preterm labor but she absolutely can conceive and have a successful pregnancy as Im sure many on this site will attest to
