Cervical cancer AFTER hyserectomy

In 1995, at 31 I had a complete hysterectomy, cervix taken too. This was done primarily because of Endometriosis, but also my sister was going through Ovarian Cancer (She passed 5/98) I'm 42 now.
I had pain similar to Endometriosis, saw my family doctor, he sent me to my Gyn., concerned about Cervical cancer. Gyn. said it was displasia, put me on Premarin vaginal cream. It turns out I'm allergic to that. Did NOT do any biopsies. I should NOT HAVE ANY PART OF A CERVIX. I know that dysplasia can be a precurser to cervical cancer. What I don't know is whether or not it is possible to develop Cervical cancer after hysterectomy. My family Dr. and I know this growth where my cervix use to be, was NOT there 4-5 years ago. Any ideas? Lynda Posted on 05/31/07, 05:05 pm |

Yes it is possible to have cervical cancer after hysterectomy I had hysterectomy back in 1995 and in aug of 2007 i was dx'd againafter all thease years of good pap tests! I had cream form of cemo for 13 weeks on the spots I have which are in the walls same cells that I had on my cervex which I no longer have.I go back this next month for another biopsy to see if the treatment worked. If it didnt then they are going to do surgery to remove the infected tissue and then I will have to go through full cemo and radaition. Keeping my fingers crossed! Good Luck to you! HUGS

I just recently had a total hysterectomy due to carcinoma in situ. My Oncologist as well as my ob/gyn were BOTH very good counselors and made sure I fully understood that having a hysterectomy which removes your cervix does not mean that the HPV (or whatever is causing your cancerous cells) will not still come back into play. You may not have "cervical" cancer again (since you no longer have a cervix) but you CAN get vulva or vaginal cancers. Definately follow up with a trusted professional!
