I'm 32 and don't have a drivers license. I took drivers Ed back in high school at my mom's insistence. I narrowly missed passing road test due to poor parking ability. I never really had a desire to drive. I have very poor reaction time and hand-eye coordination. I also had seizures throughout my teens. I do not feel capable and in control enough to operate a vehicle. It frustrates me when people pressure me to try to get a license. There are enough bad drivers on the road I don't need to add to the problem. I'm content walking or using public transportation. The fresh air is good and the walk gives me time to mentally prepare myself for the day.

" I also don't drive after I had a seizure whilst driving, hitting a utility pole & suffering a broken ulna. 'T'is inconvenient, miss it but am glad as I was & still am severely visually impaired.

I admire your desire not wishing to drive & to walk or to take public transportation. 'T'is far better, IMHO, than to risk harm or death to another or to yourself. "

" well, public transportation I think is frustrating too because, I take SEPTA dometimes theire late or sometimes theire early or right on time, just like taxi's.

And I guess sometimes a person prefers the open road and independents getting where they wanna go right when they want,

Lie if I just wanted to go to wawa or something, the bus can't do that,

So, it's frrustrating "

" l aint figgered what Guitergod means by wawa? l understand where niccid is coming from. l cant grasp why ppl dont find out if they're capable of driving. owning cars is expensive. Denying yourself one of the great pleasures of life is more expensive to the psyche l refuse to admit defeat unless l'm sure l may harm myself/others We have CP we are ppl also & l try to grab w/e l can in life W/O hurting others

" I gave up driving for good in 1978 when I no longer could see what was directly in front of me. Had given up night driving in 1976 when I almost didn't see a little black kid on a bike; but, saw him just in time to avoid hitting him. Then, I no longer could get a renewal of my driver's license as I had to do the eye test every 3 years. So, flunked it due to my poor vision. Now don't have to fear I might cause harm to self or others because of my driving. Also, no longer have the stress I had whilst driving. So, just make the best of it &, thank goodness, can walk on my primative country dirt roads upright in the vertical plane. Cannot get to stores, etc., though, via walking. Depend on others to lend me a hand in this regard. "

" lol Chip. Wawa is a chain of convenience stores in the northeast. We have some in Jersey and there's some in PA too. They're basically a 7/11 but I think most of them are bigger and better.

I understand your not wanting to put others in danger Niccid, and if not driving doesn't bother you I don't see a problem. For me I think not driving would get to me a lot though, I really love cars and tinkering around with mine, putting aftermarket parts on it. If I had two good hands I probably would have been a racecar driver actually, I love any kind of motorsports. So not driving I think would really get to me. "

" Yo guitargod, l aint critizing you & i'm gessing SEPTA is a form of public transportation. & taxi's suck & l only take them if l'm gonna get too f'ed up to drive. & l love my independence too much to take chances w/my drivers license. lt used to be that All handicapped ppl w/ basic ability was accomodated (not blind) Now l believe one must take an evaluation b4 getting a permit, but a 90 yr old can drive into a fruitstand & injure ppl sry to ramble
