You guys baffle me!! just wants to get buffed & baclofen is what tiente says it does see if it goes toward w/e ur goals are. As for hitting a gym, l'd go (not call) & ask the mgr for as few free visits. He will be ok & see if IT goes towards ur goals. i use a cardioglide so both sides get buffer &l'm an old geezer that goes off-roading @ least 1x per week
God Bless

of course i lift with both sides. the whole point of weight lifting for me is to limit the outward physical appearance of cerebral palsy.

hi. when i was 14, my muscle spasms got REALLY bad. they moved from being isolated in my legs to occuring in my entire body. they became more frequent, and wore me out to the point where my mom would have to bring me home early from school because i was so tired.during this time, i tried a myrid of medicines. baclofen only made me tired and i'd fall asleep in class. good thing my mom and i tried the pill form instead of going ahead with the baclofen pump. my advice is: if you're going to try it, try the pill form first. that way, you won't have to have a potentially unnescessary surgery. plus, the pump (the last time i checked) requires extra surgery for the doctor to adjust dosages. hope this helps!-fallon

Hi,
My son is 9 and he has CP. It affects mainly his hips and legs. Last November he started taking oral baclofen (pill form) and we did see an improvement. I can't say anything regarding if it helps with being in public since my son doesn't suffer from that. There are two things that people need to realize when taking the oral baclofen and that is yes it does have a sedative affect, however it also depends on the dosage and your size. My son was taking 10mg 3 times a day and he wasn't tired at all!!! When you first start taking this you have to be weaned onto it and then again when you stop taking it as well. If you don't, it can cause seizures. My son ended up getting the baclofen pump and he has much better results with the pump than with the oral medicine. When you take oral medication it has to cross the blood barrier and you get side effects. With the pump you are getting the medication right where you need it. (with my son it's for his legs so the catheter goes into his spine at his lower back) We did a baclofen trial to see if the pump would work. My son was sedated and then given a shot of the baclofen into his lower spine and then we waited and watched. At 2 hours they had him up and walking. I thought botox was amazing, but it doesn't do half the stuff the shot had done. We scheduled his surgery right away and at the end of May 2009 he had the pump installed. My son is taking more medication through his pump than he was taking in pill form. He has no side effects and since the medicine is going right to where he needs it, he's getting less percentage than he was in pill form. It would take a lot through the pump to make him tired. Fallon - Sounds like you had a pretty high dose of the baclofen if it was making you tired like that. I had heard that there are some kids who take it and get the desired affect they want, but it also makes them so tired that they can't function properly. My son's doctor checks him periodically to make sure the medicine is the right dose. There is a trial (test) they can do to see if the pump would be right for you, it's not right for everyone. Good luck!
