good for her, & you, keep doing what you are doing. get her muscles strong and soon she will do it on her own, when she is ready.

the doctor think she has spastic quadripligia. he doesn't know how mild or severe it is though. and he said that she can come out of her spasticity so he doesn't want to make a diagnosis untill he sees her MRI.

bcas1971... the doctor told us all she has to strengthen is her trunk then she will be able to walk, crawl, etc. and get out of the ATR formation.

hi emily, im new here... my son has not been diagnosed with cp but he does have certain attributes thts making look in this direction... hes 11 months old and cannot sit unsupported for he too has a weak trunk, his legs are very strong and he can support his own weight, but he doesnt have any balance because his trunk his weak... today im feeling really low...went to PT today and he did really well sat supported and pushed up for a few minutes with his arms(oh he cant support his weight on his arms so pushing up lasts only for short periods of time)..but it really hurt to see him struggling to do wht most people take for granted... what kind of trunk strengthening are you currently doing with your daughter? if you dnt mind me asking... also , my son vocalises alot! but no definite words are coming out....he loves to say oogaa! or gaaa!or even grrrr...he also says oooofff alot...but nothing like dada or mama.. i dont want to ask if this is normal, because normal is relative...but does anyone who's reading this have any words of advice or comments? pray that your daughter contiunues on her upward path...

thank you. good trunk strengthining excercises are holding your son's hands and having him pull up(sit ups) putting him into a crawling motion, even if he doesn't move, (having his hands and knees on the ground helps the stomach. ) We have this Rody Pony, when my daughter sits on it(we bounce her on it) her legs are spread as if she is riding a pony and it helps head control, stomach strengthining, streching of the legs and balance. another thing we do is put a toy on a chair/couch and have her stand aginst it so while she's distracted with the toy I put my knee between her legs and lock her legs so she can't bend them, it helps the legs, trunk, and head.
about the vocalizing, my daughter is almost 2 and still all she does is coo, goo, etc. our speech therapist thinks she can say hi and hey. which is better than nothing. our doctor at schriners told us that they have to really get the gross motor skills down before they concentrate on talking, because gross motor skills come befor fine motor skills, and that's with anybody. but i don't take him to seriously because i've seen so many children/adults with cp who are wheelchair bound who can talk perfectly. i would suggest getting a speech therapist. right now our speech therapist is doing a picture board for my daughter so she has some way she can communicate with us, which is great because it helps them feel not so helpless. feel free to ask me anything. i just hope that what i have to say is helpful. :)
