Bone Density and Colonoscopy

Well I just returned from MD Anderson in Houston where I go for my skin cancer check ups. All went well... HURRAY!! I do not have to return for 5 months so I am very happy.

But they were very interested in my Celiac disease. They want me to have a Bone density because they say it can effect that like it has effected my teeth. Also really want me to have a colonoscopy to get a biopsy and a thorough check up to make sure I do not have any Squamous Cell Carcinomas like I have elsewhere. SOOOOOOoooooo

Also concerned about my thyroid nodules so I have a list of things to attend too....

I see my Family Doctor tomorrow.

Any advice about the colonscopy and diet. I am completely gluten and dairy free.

" colonoscopy is a breeze. they sedate you so you remember nothing. the worst part is not eating for roughly 24 hours and drinking the colon cleanser...
as far as diet, just make sure you are eating plenty of fiber - i eat lots and lots (and lots! lol) of beans - they are cheap, all gluten free and tasty... i eat lots of fruit and veg everyday - no trouble at all with morning consitution, and colonoscopy shows that i'm doing quite well.
i remember in the late 80's, my first colonoscopy was done with no sedation. it was painful to have the tube shoved around acute corners and when the doc started to pump in the air, i thought my eyeballs were going to fly outta my head - after, the doc said go in the adjoining toilet room and "try to pass some of the air" - i just looked at him... the 5 feet distance between the 2 rooms was almost unbearable - i made it... but boy am i glad that they sedate! " Yes, being probed isn't fun, but they are much better at it now. Celiac is diagnosed by small bowel edoscopy, when they stick the garden hose down your throat and take biopsies. They also examine the villi in your intestine. If they are flattened out, that a big sign and then the biopsy brings back high levels of AGA - Anti-gliadin Antibodies. I'm sorry you have this too. It is so hard for me and my wife to go out to dinner. My motherinlaw is a great cook and accomodating as well. It just seems like there are so many products now. I love the bagels and English muffins recently intoduced into my Wholefood (aka Wholepaycheck). Kinnikinnick is the name of the company. "

" woo hoo for kinnickinnick! i've been GF for what, 19 years now... and yes, products have come so far! KK is the best.

i only have to go for upper endoscopy every 5 years now, cuz i'm doing well, on my first one way back when, i had long bald patches where the villi were completely gone, long sections where it was shorter than normal and lying down, long sections of lying down normal size... it took over 2 years for the missing villi to grow back, and they were still shorter than normal 5 years on... today, i'm good - but have always had to have colonoscopy as part of the CD ritual of testing, plus Oleander needs to make sure cancer cells are not metastasizing elsewhere - very critical safeguard Oleander, so get it done asap!
