Question about Celiac Symptoms

My husband was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 2 months ago, and we immediately went gluten free. For the most part, he is improving as far as the uncomfortable symptoms are lessening; however, today he woke up feeling like he did before he was diagnosed, so today he feels miserable, with gurgling stomach, nausea and just an overall bad feeling. And, he has adhered to the diet. Have any of you with a longer history experienced this? We just need to know if this is a part of the rollercoaster ride that he is on with this new diagnosis. Thanks.

" I agree, VioletBlues, that I did indeed start to feel better after being gluten free for a while. I have fibromyalgia, and before g/f I was in horrific pain, not to mention the IBS.

The IBS is why I was tested for celiac sprue, as I had written that on my 'admissions sheet' and the nurse just shook her head, and said "WHO told you this?" like she was angry or something. Had never heard of celiac before my first colonoscopy/endoscopy.

It did help the fibro pain to decrease, and then came rheumatoid arthritis, but... since I have also started eating more healthy due to diabetes, I have found that even the arthritis pain has become more tolerable. So, I guess the old saying "you are what you eat" could certainly apply to me. "

" Thanks to all of your replies... each one gives us more information than we had before! We are hopeful that the strict gluten free diet will help to lessen the muscle, and joint discomfort that my hubby has. For over 1.5 years he has felt so miserable with the symptoms of Celiac Disease, that he has lost track of the joys and normalcy in life... part of my role as his wife is to help him to find the blessings and fun in everyday life... that is very tough when a person feels so bad as he has. I just keep encouraging being hopeful and point out the positives that have occured since his diagnosis and subsequent diet change. Any other great coping strategies out there that have worked for you? "

Also has he been checked for fibromyalgia?

" Hi Oleander- Steven has normal thyroid function; his MD monitors that regularly. He has been tried on the Lyrica for muscle aching but never had the diagnosis of fibromyalgia; he had very poor tolerance to the Lyrica, with all sorts of side effects. I am hoping that the strict adherence to the diet will help all these issues subside...
This past week I think he had a bit of the intestinal flu, so that just confuses everything... but I tell you what, I made some kick-butt homemade chicken noodle soup for us that was sooooooo good! "
