I have a stong bladder, but leaky urine. Wondering if could have to do with celiac disease (leaky gut syndrome) or I'll stick with the idea that it is from too much estrogen? Thanks.

" I am assuming when you say "leaky urine" you mean that you have trouble holding your urine at times? If so, that is quite a different thing than Leaky Gut Syndrome.

Leaky Gut Syndrome doesn't involve gut contents leaking out of the body, but rather stuff leaking from within the gut into the bloodstream. From my understanding it occurs with chronic inflammation of the lining of the gut, which leaves gaps in the lining, allowing particles of food to be absorbed into the blood stream that shouldn't normally be able to get through.

So, I would tend to think that Leaky Gut and "leaky urine" would not be closely linked, or at least are not similar phenomenon. Make sense? If your urine were leaking our of your bladder into the rest of your body then that would be a similar thing, but I suspect you wouldn't know if that were happening! "

" you don't mention if you have sudden urgency and can't hold or if you are just not voiding all and leaking later... but there are many issues that lead to urinary difficulties... diabetes for one... UTI, or just aging issues for a start. i would mention it to my doc if i were you, find out for sure... might or might not be MS related... Good luck* "

" Opps. I didn't elaborate. The "leaky gut syndrome" was not meant the same as "leaky bladder" (sorry for that confusion). My accupuncturist has been treating the "leaky gut syndrome". I didn't give the whole story. 5 or so years back, I began to have some incontinence (urine would leak out randomly). I got many tests done by a urologist, who could not figure out what was wrong with me. No sense of urgency. Just random leaking (and not all the time). The tests showed that I have strong bladder muscles; normal on all of the other tests; nothing showed up in the MRI. My friend thought maybe it was a result of estrogen (although I was only 34'ish at the time). So far, I haven't had an occurance of what I call "leaky urine" in the 5 days I've been off of gluten. I'm going to see a really good Celiac Doctor in Baltimore, so I'll be getting the help I need. Was just wondering if anyone else experienced anything like it. Thanks. "

" I have been getting tests for leakage.
There are multiple possibilities and that is the reason I am undergoing so many tests.

It can be the nerve in the bladder giving the wrong signals or failing to give a signal.

I can be that the urethra has changed and become loose.
This one is treated with an outpatient surgery.

There are other treatments for other reasons for this problem.
Sometimes it is surgery, medications or therapy.

The tests are unpleasant and it is the only way to know how to treat the problem for each patient. "
