I knew it damaged my brain along with other nerve tissue in my body. But I regained a lot of function over the past ten years. I would not give up hope yet. The improvement seems to slack off after the first few months but it does continue.

Wow, that is crazy that this disease can cause soo much. I am so forgetful. It scares me because I have three young children, and it seems to get worse. Is there medicine for dementia?

There are several things. My husband is on Nemanda and it seems to be helping him some. He was officially diagnoised with dementia last year by our neurologist. He is the one who shared with us that the celiac disease caused the dementa. He said hsi body was producing too many antiglutens and the antiglutens wa causing his brain to shrink.
Your having three boys and them very active can casue anyone to be forgetful at times. What I am saying I guess is that too much stress can cause forgetfulness but not dementia.

I can join your husband's club. I have had symptoms of celiac since around 1980 but wasn't diagnosed until 2004 with colonoscopy and biopsy. I began to have dementia symptoms approx 2005 and now am deep into it and no longer able to work. I just filed for SSDI and hoping they approve. You can look at my profile and see I am a dictionary of diseases, unfortunately. I have read only a little on the net about the connection. My new gastro doesn't believe there is a connection. I am not convinced there is a connection yet either. I thought I had a couple of "celiac seizures" but now that dementia has set in heavily, I think those seizures were mini-strokes and they've caused my dementia. They don't show up on CT/MRI/EEG but then, often mini's don't. Plus I waited 5 months since my 2nd event to get the tests. God bless you and hubby Ms. Angelunaware. Hope to hear about his status again soon!

***ONE MORE THING - My 28 year old daughter is about to participate in a clinical trial for a "celiac disease pill" that breaks down gluten into a harmless substance. The previous trials were 100% SUCCESSFUL! During the trial she will have to ingest gluten containing foods so she is a bit edgy about it but SOOOO looking forward to being able to eat regular food again and not suffer the other junk celiac causes. She is already suffering arthritis, electric shocks in her brain, and several others. Best, Alice Faye

Alicefaye, My heart goes out to you and your daughter. There is an enzyme that really helps break down food particles and it is called Rich's Enzymes. It has to be kept in the refrigerator. My husband does not miss a good meal. I buy the coconut flour and the cookbook that goes with it and he has breads, cakes and whatever else I can cook for him. He has gained weigt and now weighs 180 lbs. I am so happy about his weight since he had lost down to 145 lbs in 2004. It has been a long road jsut to get him to gain weight. The last time we saw the neurologist they warned us that he may start having strokes. I am not really worried about that since I have him on the best glyconutrients that bring the immune system into balance. Our doctor says that my husband has great blood work which is unusual for someone with celiac disease. I will keep you in my prayers

This story:
http://www.webmd.com/news/20061013...
is just the beginning of the story about gluten intolerance. I have personally experienced the onset of gluten intolerance after a lifetime of good health, and it was catastrophic. I had two operations and several symptoms that persist to this day. The main problem that I have found gluten intolerance to cause is inflammation of the brain. This causes symptoms and organ failure in the rest of the body, and the electrical system of the body is damaged (the brain is the central part of the electrical and control system of the body), and organs start to spin out of control without a central system to guide them. Celiac disease, in my opinion, comes from inflammation of the brain, not the other way around. Present day gluten (7 - 9 times more concentrated in wheat than in the 50's) are poison to my body. I can detect gluten within hours of eating it, just from the symptoms that show up. None of these symptoms are digestive, they are all mental and with my eyes. The brain inflammation happens quickly, and neurons start dying as quickly. I'm not sure the damage can be completely reversed, but I can say that I am close to being back to my original health after being off gluten for almost one year. It is worth it, no food is worth eating if it destroys your brain.

I didn't know this. I know lots of things that Celiac can progress to. No wonder my Neuro is more concerned about my CD than my MS at the moment as during our meeting last week, we discussed all the possible areas of cross-contamination in my home because of my bf's refusal to stop bringing breads... into my home. He always left crumbs everywhere, I was constantly cleaning up little bits left on the counters... and watched him like a hawk bc he liked to use the same utensils... turns out he was using my toaster oven when I was off to work, actually saying that he thought any crumbs would fall to the bottom and not touch my food. SO, I've been slowly poisoned for the last almost 3 years by someone who supposedly loved me and was my chief supporter.

Don't know if this relates, but it kinda does. While in the hospital with my husband...long story, we were watching "House." A mother was hearing voices and hurting her child. It turns out the child died and they found out through the autopsy that he had blunted villi, CD. They traced it back to the mother and eluded that she too was CD. Is that crazy or what?! Don't know how true any of that is, but you know they get their story lines somewhere. I never watch "House", so this was wild that the one show that I watch has CD in it.
