gluten intolerance is bad for your liver !
In gluten intolerance, protien is not broken down properly. This can cause seious liver damage.

Even more reason to try a gluten free diet if you have symptoms. If you feel better, don't look back. Your liver will thank you.

" Sunny, thanks for posting this info. I was not aware of that fact, but it could explain why my liver counts were high for awhile. I took milk thistle, which seemed to bring them down, but it's still a scary fact. Yet one more reason for me to stay GF for life. Thanks again for the post. "

" Thanks for this. Untreated Celiac Disease can cause inflammation of the liver.

I'm gluten free and am still having liver problem. My doctor thinks it's related to my other autoimmune conditions. Oh the joys!! (sarcasm). "

" It took mine nearly 3 years to stop showing up bad on the blood tests.
Hang in there and try not to panic. Mine was not working at all when I was diagnosed. "

" My legs and feet were so swollen that I had shoes three times my real size.

My abdomen was swollen so I looked 6 months pregnant. I weighed 109 pounds at the time (30 pounds under for my height).

My hands and feet swelled until I could not longer bend them. "

" I just received Dr. Osborne's article on gluten and the liver. It reinforced what you said.

" That is a great article. I was in total liver shut down when docs finally paid attention to me. Thank goodness that organ heals so nicely.

I have wondered thou if that fatty stuff ever resolves.
It worries me with my neighboor. If a doc ever biopsies mine, he might think I was an addict to alcohol at some point. That would be so bad. Once they get those ideas in their head it is hard to change them.
I sure don't need another battle with docs in my lifetime. "

" sunnybunn,

I want to personally thank you for your kind support. A friend of mine just passed from liver damage. I wanted her to try gluten free. She did but never got any testing. So she kinda lived in denial thinking she could eat a little bit. I am so angry that she got advice on the internet that was wrong and died from it. I wish everyone would realize that this gluten intolerance means just as much danger as celiacs. I hate it when people want to have it their way when they have a disease they could treat themselves.
